Uh... it is out there. I am above that, and M-F days, no nights, no weekends. I average 55-57 per week, and great bennies. If you don't look and try, you will never find a great driving job.

over a year experience should get it unless a guy with more experience wants it. all you can do is try. they would prefer to keep a driver happy then to let them walk off.Spring Chicken Thanks this.

out of those 3 I would only look at dean foods, I have a couple pals there many of the dean locations are union both do very well 65-70k year..

It's hard to imagine a huge paycut from an outfit that's already licking the bottom of the barrel before the cuts. I've always said a person would be better off buying a nice lawnmower and trailer with their trucking school money if their only goal is to settle down with a truckload outfit.

I worked JB HUNT for a year . Was treated very poorly and lied to often. I eventually went to CRETE and worked there 18 years. JB has a bad reputation that they worked very hard for. I find it amusing to see some of the people who try to defend JB. My favorite comments involve when they insult the former drivers as if it was something wrong with the driver and how they just couldn't handle working for such a fine outfit as JB. If JB hadn't treated so many drivers like garbage and lied to them they wouldn't have people like me out here talking about how bad they are. I quit CRETE because my Mom got sick and I am considering going back. Or maybe I'll try somebody else. Some defenders say well JB isn't perfect but what company is. Perfection isn't the issue. It's that JB is especially bad even in this industry.

LOL I am a owner operator with 2 trucks both setting up to be put on the jb hunt C&S account each one of my trucks should clear about 1200 to 1800 a week depending on my fuel usage I agree working for them as a company driver or there lease purchase they treat you very poorly I have done both those options the lease and the company side NEVER again but as a small fleet owner they are very upfront with me and on time with my money and I have been doing work for/with them for almost a year and I will be within a hour and a half to the house

Merit4242, I think JB pays hhg/short miles. With the price of fuel, I know you don't want to drive a bunch of free miles. I also own a truck . I was leased to Crete and they pay practical miles. I had to get off the road for several months. I have been looking around at companies and was surprised to see that many companies still pay those short miles. I was considering the Schneider Choice Program until I realized they seem to pay hhg miles.. After being on practical mile pay for several years, I just thought that was the norm . I guess not. Good luck with whatever you decide. As for me, I think I will avoid companies that pay me for less miles than I drive.

As far as Companies, all I can say is to stay away from all the big names, like J.B., Werner, U.S. Express, C.R. England. Find a company that doesn't advertise in those little booklets in the truck stops. Why do you think those companies always have ads there? They lose so many drivers each month, they have to pay a lot of money for those ads, to keep the steady flow of new victims coming through the front door.
As far as Industries, I love Tanker work. The work is easy, and you get paid better, if you can find a good company. Don't fall into the new trap out there, thinking you are going to make big bucks in the oil business. I hear of a lot of drivers working for $15 to $18 an hour, when they should be making double that. Due to a very abundant supply of drivers for that work, the pay has dropped. Find a medium sized company in the chemical or food grade business. -
I know guys doing tanks . They do get paid better. Most of the time. I have seen them sit a week waiting for a load. And then there is that sloshing freight. Maybe I'll try it sometime.
