I'm on a dedicated run 600 miles with drop and hook in the middle. My question is how would you log it legally to save the most amount of time. IE can it be split into two 15 minute breaks when I get out to make a pit stop? Can it be taken at the yard when I am switching out trailers? I know how to log it to make it appear legal I am only asking how you would do it legally.
New HOS rules?

Pretty simple. Two 15 minute breaks don't count. I'd take the 30 at some point after the D&H. If you stop for fuel, I'd use that stop to kick back and enjoy lunch and maybe a short power nap.airforcetoo and Big Duker Thank this.

Well, for me to understand why you are asking. What is your truck governed at? I dont see how showing at least 30 minutes for the D&H and a single 30 minute break somewhere in there could do you wrong. I run OTR and I stop about every 3 to 3-1/2 hours for about 7 minutes for a quick break and keep it moving. Maybe I should read the "new rules" and figure out before I answer this. I'll post this an edit it later.

Yeah crete they added the full 30 minute rest break and 34 hour restart provisions.
30 minute rest break, note it says off duty. Fueling is on duty. A driver just has to take him a lunch break. One can kind of compress things like adding 30 minutes off duty to a 15 minute on duty task. Lets say it takes you 30 minutes to do something but you log 15 minutes on duty and then take you a 30 minute break right beside it. In those cases you are still down 45 minutes regardless but shaved 15 minutes versus a straight out 30 minute stop.
Like crete said stop every 3-3.5 hrs with one 30 minute break and one 15 minute break. That'll keep the old legs circulating and really that time doesn't kill ones day. How many drivers trash truck stops and look at dvds? Many kill 30 minutes and don't even know it. If one gets in the habit of scheduled breaks you will find yourself not having to take them emergency bathroom breaks.
The new rule makes me wonder if some will be taking those longer breaks on the fuel island? It might make things worse there. I'll move my truck when my break is up!! lol
34 hour restart

There are a bunch of threads discussing the new rules already.

The only way you can really log it legally is to log it like you run it.That would be the legal way, not just making it look legal on paper.
