Well I do not work for Landstar but I have done my research on them..
One thing I do understand though is in today's economy (and its going to get a lot worse before it gets any better) for a O/O to really make it he can not limit where he will travel.. Better yet a O/O has to be really on top of where he is heading to make sure he is going to get something out of there worth it... So, limiting where you will go is setting yourself up for failure or definitely setting yourself up for hard times... Is it possible to make it in the travel lanes you mentioned? Sure if you hook up with the right accounts (something that takes awhile to do with Landstar, getting a dedicated type run)...

OK,One local driver I've known has ran for Inway(acquired by Landstar) since 1974.Yes this is probably a word record. And yes he goes to lima and P/U at G.D.And Yes he is spoon fed.Yes the Landstar folks I've met are "Countrey Club Truckers"Another local one has some kin in lima who got into point suspension issues or whatever?Runs some step deck fairy tale. After he ask me the most simpleton questions such as "what is a coil rack"I helped this retired marine out all I could.I see him in Quartzste AZ.and he ignores me?His reason for trucking is to get some space from his wife.Alot of the Landstar drivers are husband-wife teams .They have there own thing going and usually keep to theirselves.Especially if they have important cargo.Last I checked CEO of Landstar was by far the highest paid exuctive in the industry. Also based out of Florida(laws?).Any 25 year old is in for some(6) excellant years of running whatever. My opinion is your too young for Landstar. Also my opinion is they have a poor saftey record considering everything(country clubbers/important gov.freight)When the business did a 180 in 99 and all the companies folded, the O/O stuck with the keys leased to big Landstar.Even their stockholders got rich.I have never ever once in my life ever heard a Trucker be accused of being rich. The company man and self employed make the same money for the same work.Only somebody can make it a better experience. What you make of it.Look at the big rigs on the headstones at the cemetary,Gitter. Also check the top 10 highest paid trucking exucitives and proubably 5 of them ar from Landstar.Who is the sucker in this picture?
