Was stopped in Texas by state trooper. She walked up and said she was going to perform a level 2 inspection.
We did all the lights, horn the usual stuff. Even looked under the tarps. So far everything is good.
She comes up to the drivers side and says, Well so far I see no violations, things look good, Now I am going to search the inside of the truck..... I said I am sorry could you repeat that I had a hard time hearing you when that truck passed..... She says I want to search inside the truck. I just looked at her a moment and said you would like to inspect inside the cab of the truck. She says ahhh yes inspect the inside of the truck.. I say OK, open the door and climb down, held the door for her and let her look, standing there the whole time.
(all the cabinets in my truck have doors, so nothing is visible)
Needless to say, she was now not very happy, asked for my logs and other paper work and said she would let me know when to come back to the patrol unit.
She honks the horn and signals me to come to the patrol unit and informs me no violations found with paper work. How ever she did see one violation, the license plate on the trailer was obscured by the required light and could not be clearly read. (plate is mounted in the factory provided location)
This was just out side of Laredo, TX Wonder what she was really looking for?

i hate it when they look inside.
of course it's a mess. how do you keep your very small living quarters NEAT and ORGANIZED. -
they dont really have a right to look beyond the dash, and can only look at things "in plain sight"
keep your dirty socks on the bed, they wont bother you -
I've been inspected twice in Los Indios in the past 8 months. They found a bunch of stuff, including a leaking fuel cap which was not leaking, and an exhaust leak under the cab, and they found this while the truck wasn't even running. They saw soot so they said there was an exhaust leak. Turns out it was black paint, not soot. They even got me for 2 drive tires that they said were under the tread threshold, but when the Speedco checked it 2 days before, while getting oil changed, their report showed 6/32 and 8/32.
::sigh::
Now I have a few CSA points and not sure if there's a way to get rid of them other than through time. -
least yours was paint.
there's a truck sitting here. with soot on the drivers side panel. and chrome. where his muffler resides. those type of mufflers aren't that expensive. and can easily be replaced. but unless he has plans to sit home next week. i'm pretty sure he'll be getting a new muffler on the spot.
seeing lot of landstar pulling steps with there axles in the back also. in new york. i've got mine forward and so do everyone else. -
Out of all the inspections I've had only one time have I dealt with a crooked inspection in CA.
My last few years on the road I did take off them driver appreciation weeks.
Not like I had something to hide, it was just a good time to take off to avoid any hassle.
June 3 is a good day for a truck wash and clean that dash off. First impressions go a long way.DoneYourWay Thanks this.
