A guy I work with has an old white truck that he is building a rat rod out of. We are trying to find out what year it is and all we have is a serial number. Does anyone know how to decode a serial number from some time around the 1960s

when Volvo purchased Whight they got a yard of trucks, chassis, cabs... and they used to installl all stuff they had to these chassis, so no any VIN - configuration database.
I saw wight with old FH12 powertraine (D12A engine), Volvo 123, 121 and 101 engines (pre D12, injection pump engines), Cat, DD, Cummins M and N, various transmissions. some trucks got volvo F cabover series cab on Wight chassis... it was a chaos till 1999. Some late Wight had '98 FH powertraine, before first VN was made. YEP, there were WG with D12C and VECU!!!!
It is not all. really it is hard to understand how to use old diagrams.. not easy to identify truck! I have some collection of WG diagrams and old VCADs to work on old rigs. Volvo do not support so old trucks. -
You might find help here http://www.aths.org/
