1. Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

It is time...

May 10 marked the completion of my first year of driving, pulling dry van OTR. Still have a clean MVR, didn't hit anything, but my PSP score took a bit of a hit from being dinged on maintenance issues that were identified by me and deferred by the truck owner.

It seems that my employer is experiencing ever increasing cash management issues, and yesterday he offered to sell me the trucks and trailers so that he could just get out of the trucking business. Even though the terms are favorable ($30K cash for two 1998 Petes with under 400k each and two 53' van trailers), I'm not in a financial position to be able to meet his terms and still have sufficient operating capital.

In short, I'm only exploring other opportunities because my current employer is moving towards exiting the industry.

I have 1 year of experience hauling dry van spot market freight OTR. Most of my miles have been in the Northeast states, with occasional runs to Florida and the Pacific Northwest. I mostly self-dispatch and am charged with handling everything to do with operation of the truck except the back office functions such as billing, record keeping and accounts payable. January-April 2013, loads that I booked generated $59,158 in revenue on 27874 total hub miles, despite repairs that kept the truck off the road and in the shop for almost 4 weeks.

I'd be happiest working for an owner that affords me similar latitude with operating the truck and that pays based on performance, but I'll consider and evaluate all offers. I live in southeast NC, and I will typically stay out on the road as long as rates are good and the truck is earning. Hometime is not a priority.

Heck no. Revenue to the truck minus my pay and fuel costs, he 'netted' about $6k in the last two weeks. So maybe it's the other truck that's draining his account.

5-something mpg will kill your bottom line. I've seen that run a number of folks right out of business.
