ROFLMAO! When you are too old and broke down to crank the gear, it is time to retire! (Unless you are talking about cranking up a loaded trailer because you have jumped the fifth wheel.)
We have a custom low boy stainless steel horse trailer. The landing gear can't go higher than about 4". As a result, we have to make accommodations for turns in some places or it will get hung up. The shoes are quite evident of this - LOL!
Sometimes I'll pick up a trailer that was dropped too high. Even without jumping the king pin, it's still a royal pain in the ### to crank the gear down, especially if the trailer is loaded. If this tool could apply about 90-120 LBS of force on the handle and be lightweight enough to carry around, it would be perfect for this.
So you have a trailer that's to low or high to get under. It's loaded and near impossible to crank down/up. What to do?
I'm typically at a DC, so I can call a switcher. If there are no switchers, the freight would have to be unloaded.
That may work out for those trailers that are 40,000 pounds plus and 6 inches or more above the 5th wheel when trying to hook up to it, don't know why but some drivers believe they have to crank the landing up before pulling out. it takes forever to lower the trailer enough to hook to it correctly with weight on it. Drivers could eliminate that problem if they unhooked correctly.. which won't happen
