I'm thinking about getting one of these for DH. Do you unplug it at night to keep from running the battery down, or is this something you don't have to worry about? Could you please supply the capacity for this model?
Thanks bunches.

No, these things will never run the batteries down on a semi, unless you have really bad batteries. I run a proper truck fridge and a stand alone deep freezer on my Pete and no way will they ever run the batteries down even if the engine is off. This DC power just doesnt drain the power as they just don't generate a lot of juice forthem to drain the batteries.

what model is that freezer? Where did you get it? Also thanks for the mention of the skillet, I have been using a cheap walmart version and while it does a fine job its pretty uneven and just gets way too hot too fast.

Thanks for responding and putting my fears at rest, for I was a little worried about that.

No problem, the name of the company is Truckfridge out of Kentucky. WWW.truckfridge.com. These things are designed in Italy but assembled in China. They sell good quality units. I've got this thing hard wired to the fuse box but it looks like I'm gonna have to take the pass seat out. Just not enough room for what I'm looking at. I use this as a pure freezer and it works great. It takes the whole idea of cooking and food selection to a whole new level. I've got salmon, prime steaks, other meats and veges all neatly pre packaged by me in plastic bags ready to thaw and cook. The skillet I use outside on top of the APU and I've got the usual power socket outside. Yeah, I do get strange looks til they see what I'm up to. It's a hoot. Doesn't take long to cook and off you go. I've got the biggest of the stand alone fridge freezers ie 2 cu ft and it does its job as described.
Its the best option for me and it cuts down on aggregate shopping time. Imagine having fresh Cajun salmon with veges for less than $5 and a big plateful too. Most of my bulk food buying is done at Sams or Costco.
Good luck

Thanks for your help! Wow, you've got this area covered, for sure. I love salmon and definitely would miss it once I join him OTR next year.

Appreciate it! looking at the 1 or 1.5 cu however hard wiring is not an option for me unfortunately so I'm not sure now, could run it to an inverter but it says not recommended. You could use the skillet inside if you wanted to couldn't you? Assuming you don't want the smells inside. You got a great set-up.

Yes you can connect the truck fridge freezer to an inverter via a AC to DC converter. I bought mine at Amazon. not expensive at all. That's what I used til I got it directly wired. Had no ill effects. I asked the people at Truckfridge about it. Yes they don't recommend it but I saw no problem with it. And of course you can connect it directly to AC power at home when needed. They supply a separate cord for that.
good luckslomocopshow and AZS Thank this.
