I was just joking, lol...
At least my first two weeks I was hitting the hammer hard to make up for my slow tarping. Have gotten much faster this past week and slowed the truck down considerably giving me a higher mpg. I'm also still getting use to the truck. Not sure if it is the Detroit or the auto but it doesn't feel like it has the torque at 1000-1200 that the Cummings ISX has. I would never shift my last truck over 1350 and it pulled like a freight train at low rpms. Unless the rear end ratios are different, the Detroit just doesn't pull as well IMO. Also working on manually shifting the truck too. Empty at 1300ish. Not down shifting through every gear coming to a stop. (Not sure if that is good for the auto or not but it sure wastes a lot of fuel, lol)
I'm happy where I'm at with it. More in time but once I start being graded starting July, I'll be ready...

And you do not drive on SR-8 coming out of Butler, PA loaded at over 48K two times each week either Driver.
Terrain can make a difference to a small degree, but it is your vigilance (as Sarge said) to keeping your rpms in order to obtain mpg numbers like you see posted on these threads. Hammer down because a load or tarp job took you 2 hours will not allow you to start posting any mpg numbers better than the 6.2-6.5 range, I assure you of that.

...and I am able to shift my truck in the 1100-1200rpm range when empty in the lower 6 gears. And also, when empty, you should be able to start from a stop in 3rd. Try this as well. Forget about driving in auto if you want Sewerman/Sarge/Jim-type mpg numbers.

ran through there this week. I average about 7.4 on fuel. Like Sarge says yeah read them hills.

I go back and forth between auto and manual. When I got the one upgrade, it no longer would let me go above 1500 rpm in manual....only in auto. I take the hills like sewerman does. I always put it in manual when I come to a stop as to not let it down shift through the gears. If you are light on the throttle, it will shift at a low rpm even in auto....vs heavy on the foot and running it at full speed until it shifts.jxu417 Thanks this.

WTH is going on with this stupid site?? I can't get in it anymore to see my scorecard. Not that my score is all that great since I decided to take A DAY OFF at the beginning of the quarter and Maverick hadn't rolled out their crappy dedicated PFP plan yet to warn me that by taking a day off I would be docked 30 points for having a "Day not available" since they don't grade us based on miles per day....blah blah blah boo hoo hoo..... cheese and whine.... sour grapes.... ugh.... I still think I am getting shafted..... I will shut up...
sewerman Thanks this. -
The 2013's don't go through the gears when you're slowing down...just thought I'd throw that out there for the ones that have them and may not know that...
There is no need to drive these in manual...they progressive shift on their own...skip shift too.
Not sure which year that started...but this truck does it, and does a good job of it.Last edited: Jun 1, 2013
sewerman Thanks this. -
Don't get your skivvies in bunch
...as I understand it, you can miss a few days before it counts against you...I forget how many though, 5 I think.
Mine shows 3 days missed and I haven't taken a day off, that I haven't earned, in 4 years...those 3 days are not deducting any points though. -
Not in my division Ridgerunner. Taking a day off with a special request docked me 20 points. We cannot have a single day not available without getting docked for it.Last edited: Jun 1, 2013
