might be strange to you, however I do enjoy passing those inspections. makes my day, knowing I'm doing my job.
-
been through two in the last two weeks one was a level one passed got my stickers.
the second was a hazmat check 3 violations 2 of them were on the shippers for improper paper work
and one on me no spare log book incase electronic one went down. -
I am an officer who is required to do about 4 special checks / blitz's, or whatever name they are given each year. During these special checks, I do exactly the same job I do any and every day - day in and day out. the only difference is that during the special checks, I am required to fill out an additional piece of paper. From my perspective, there is absolutly no reason to get hyped up or "lay down for a week," due to an upcoming special check. We are the same number of officers doing the same job as we do every day.
Some of these special checks are well advertised. Others are "surprise" checks. Either way, there is no difference in the way we operate.
The special checks are set up so that officers will keep and send in data not generally recorded. The number one set of data that the Feds solicite and set up checks to gather has to do with brakes. They want to know how many manual versus self-adjuster brakes a vehicle has and how many of these are out of adjustment. This accounts for over 90% of special checks. About the only other special checks the Feds ask us to do is that we rarely gather IFTA compliance data.
Personally, (and don't tell the Feds I said so) I think most of these special checks are a little silly. I have been sending in this manual versus automatic brake adjuster data into the Feds for many, many years. I can't imagine who's getting it and what their doing with it. I've seen nothing over the years to suggest that the data has been used to modify regulations.Crash935, Lone Ranger 13, hunts2much and 5 others Thank this. -
