Ok lets say this about that. Trucking is not a job change its a life change. believe me when i say that because the worst drug in the world has no effect on like diesel fuel. once it gets in your blood you are hooked like no one can explain. Its hard to describe but life on the road is different then any thing you can imagine and life as a single truck driver is good. I was single for the for the first 2 years of my career and man did i love it. when ever i wanted time off i would tell the dispatcher when he loaded me to where ever hey i'm taking a couple of days of at the end so don't get me nothing quick. I would rent a car or a scooter and just chill out some where for a day or 2 and see the sites and scenery and believe me south Florida and CA have some fine scenery on those beaches. So if your into travel and long hours behind the wheel and meeting new people go for it the driving part will come to you its the life style you have to get used to.

yeah which company is this? our son is thinking about trucking . of course he'll have to pay his dues like every body else but when the time comes I sure would like to point him in the right direction. Most of my experience is on the o/o side which is quite different. Do you see why my kids call me the "opinionator" haha. really tho just want to help.

So the fog has settled in. 18 month contracts, clutch work debacles, trainers that don't shower for 20 weeks, who piss into bottles filling the cab, lease agreements that will take my first thru 4th born, backing the rig, deadheads, and on and on.
I think I have started to way over-think this whole thing. Maybe I should cut my internet access cord so I cant read every one of the thousands of posts on this and forums like this and continue my obsessing! And for all those wondering I had no takers on my "personal ad".
"Prospective trucker seeks OTR driver to ride with before taking the plunge. Prefer driver who likes AC/DC, Rush Limbaugh by day, and Michael Savage by night. DISLIKES: lots of talking, long walks on the beach, and elton john. Will provide unobtrusive company, help unloading if needed, and CCW permit valid in 17 states."
This week its Central Ref thats at the top of the list. Schneider lost a few points after reading more about some of the changes to the pay and contracts.
    Thanks for letting me vent.

ok .the way it works is most companies insurance make the decisions on hiring as the final say so.the companies lawyers and insurance are ready to dump you for an accident. the companies beleive all accidents are avoidable except for maybe wild animal hits and even then they want to know if you were on the on the prescribed route, were you speeding and were you aware of the signs posted and time of year, hunting and rut.since deer and antelope and such are the major portion of hits. other than that all accidents are avoidable. one of our drivers got caught in the classic entrance ramp merge with a truck beside him on the left and the car merged into the side of the truck cab. driver of car was issued fail to yeild ticket but the company said through anticipation of the on coming merge he should have slowed down as the computer showed no evidence of braking activity so they stuck him with a preventable...he was not fired... but if you lay one on its side its automatic discharge! ..and its because the company has to show action taken to correct the problem{you}..if you are kept on you now have a record of accidents and ifyou are invoved in another they know they will lose in court bcause no action was taken to correct said problem{you] NO ONE WILL HIRE YOU FOR THE SAME REASON AS PAST PERFORMANCE IS AN INDICATOR OF FUTURE PROBLEMS. thats the thinking.if you drive you are very optomistic if you buy any thing requiring payments as your financial wellbeing depends totally on your ability to be perfect at all times..tips if you want them get your sleep, run posted speeds, allow more following distance drive slower so traffic flows away from you, if you get rearended you will not get fired.shut down in bad weather as nothing good can come from running adverse conditons .and forget the macho i was here first attitude you will have to bend swallow hard and continue to fight another day. i am living proof that some sea turtles make it past the seagulls and cars to get back to the ocean so far but who knows tomorow ps we had one driver perfect record 30 years big dinner, truck driver hall of fame, 3,000.00 dollar check from company 3 million miles, driver trainer , ### ended a farm tractor 2 days before the festivities, was not fired as it would embarras the company, but was forced to retire 2 months later. be safe!
