I go with a separate Verizon gizmo because I feel like it. I don't particularly want to use my iphone as a hub. It may well be a waste of $$$ but it's my $$$ to waste.
You could say the same thing about my $4000 HD projection system at home. Why have that when your 32" HDTV can do the job in the bedroom or why buy A McIntosh $3000 integrated amp with a $1500 CD player when you could buy both things for a couple of hundred dollars apiece from Best Buy??
It's because I CAN !! And just because YOU think its a waste of $$ doesn't mean to say your right and I'm wrong. I just have rather unique tastes and I don't follow the crowd, especially if they always seem to go for the cheapest option. I've been down the "cheap" road a few times and it doesn't serve me well at all. I also get special discounts through my affiliation with certain organizations to keep my Verizon account as low as possible. I have more than two laptops together with an ipad. Is that a waste too? I could go on and on, but as you can tell, I could care less if it's a waste of $$ or not.
I will do whatever pleases me, and that, my friend, is all that matters !!
    Good luck. :yes2557:

I just placed my order for a Millenicom WWAN modem and unlimited plan. Because I do a lot of gaming on the road, I needed the unlimited data, which is getting really hard to find these days. Playing games doesn't use a lot of data but downloading games, updates and patches does.
Since Millenicoms modem is a CDMA device I'll be using Verizon cell towers so I should be fine for coverage unless I'm somewhere reaaaaally remote.

It's good you found a company that will offer unlimited data plans. I remember when Verizon had unlimited data until about 2008/2009. I discontinued my plan as I had come off the road at the time. I guess I should have kept it going, Now I'm wondering if there's a possibility that the big boys will revert back to unlimited data.
    I think its quite possible.:biggrin_2551:

I'm on home-time now. My Mellinicom WWAN modem was waiting for me. It's labeled as a Sprint device. The unit itself, the driver/software CD and the utility all have Sprint everywhere LOL. Doesn't matter to me tho, what matters is that even at my mothers house which is in a very rural area, I was able to download a 700Mb file in about 3 hours with 2 bars of 3G connectivity. I can live with that.
I also, just placed an order for this. I kind of wish I'd seen the 7db model before I ordered, but I should be fine. I spend 99% of my downtime right off an interstate which are pretty well covered for cellular service.

The Vreizon Jetpak is $50.00 but that is only for 6 Gig ands if you add more devices it is more. Millenium on Verizon gives you 20gig.

I think if you check the Millenium/millenicom website they no longer offer Verizon service and 20 gigs. Unless they will grandfather in your existing plan. I guess Verizon decided to pull the plug on that little earner. But again, I wouldn't be surprised if Verizon offer an unlimited plan in the future. They're always changing stuff around. Unless you watch a bunch of movies or into gaming, 20 gigs is a heck of a lot of data to use. IMHO trying to watch/stream a movie via wifi is not up to par as yet. A movie uses an incredible amount of bandwith and I've been having all kinds of problems at home with Streaming. :yes2557:

You can tether or get use your phone as a wifi hotspot. Pdanet just upgraded their app to include wifi and bluetooth.

I was shopping at the AT&T store, and for only $10 more a month I could get a 4G enabled tablet. I'm guessing the same is also good for a 4G enabled laptop.

Here's an update of my internet solution for trucking. If you've been following this thread you may remember that I purchased a Sprint WWAN modem from Mellinecom a couple of months ago, and my initial impressions were favorable. But after a few weeks on the road with the thing I have cancelled the service. The modem was 3G and 4G capable, but being off interstate highways 95% of the time I never got a 4G connection. Not once! And most of the time even with a strong signal the data transfer rate was just way too slow for a service that I'm paying $70/month for. Sometimes I could not even load a web-page for several minutes at a time. I think this is simply due to high traffic on the tower that I was hitting.
But whatever the reasons, I just didn't think I was getting value for my money. So I got a new Samsung Galaxy S4 from AT&T, rooted it, and enabled WiFi Hotspot (without paying AT&T's fee). I was freaking AMAZED at the speeds I get on a wireless 4G network. I downloaded something that was hitting over 1Mb/sec. So I have up to 5Gb and once I hit that I pay 10$ and get another GB, and so on. So if I use 10GB in a billing cycle I am still coming out cheaper than having the phone and the Mellinecom modem. And if I need to download something really big I can buy a day of Wandering WiFi and just let the download run while I sleep.
