When I first started driving we had very young kids and lived 1,300 mile away from our families, in S.W. Florida. It was very hard to receive home time living down there. Once we bought our first truck we started shipping the kids to the grandparents up North in the summertime and driving team, we made a killing. We loved driving together and would make enough so we wouldn't have to drive between Thanksgiving and New Years.

But, that time that I drove solo I know it affected our marriage and the closeness with our kids. We own our own company now and we are divorced. She and I run the company together still and she is remarried. My oldest son, who is 23 now, tells me he hated being that kid in school who's dad was a OTR Truck Driver. He says he was picked on a lot. My 21 y/o just finished driving school and is mad at me cause I will not hire him, but you need to be 25 y/o and have 2 years OTR experience to work for our company. Plus its better if he is s h I t on by someone other than mom & dad at first. He has romantic ideas about the industry that need to be shattered by some else besides us. My 15 y/o really only remembers us as business owners and not a truck drivers so she is sort of ok with it. Our 8 y/o is to young to understand and all he knows is we work at a place that has a lot of trucks and that's cool.
