A PTI is not you working for the company!!!! It's you making sure that your vehicle/house is in proper order so you can make it from point A to point B with both yourself in one piece but also so you don't kill that nice family in the station wagon next to you with the little kids asking you to toot your air horn. If you look at a pti as only a requirement for the company, please seek employment elsewhere.
Why do we let them get away with it? And why doesn't the government protect drivers

So looking at this another way... How much money does the boss make when you fuel? How about when you are held up at the shippers?
The boss/owner has all the skin in the game, a few hundred thousand in truck, trailer and office to keep you rolling. Paying dispatchers, bookkeepers, fuel, maintenance and such so you can make money. This does not include the taxes he pays because of you, nor the years it took to build his reputation so he would have the freight that you can carry.
So if he is not getting paid, why should he pay you?
I do hear they are looking for truckers in North Korea, that system make work better for you?Working Class Patriot, flightwatch, truckon and 2 others Thank this. -
Really?.....Does everyone have the "right" to be a homeowner?
Does everyone have a "right" to a "Pay Check"?Lonesome, Ghost Ryder, flightwatch and 1 other person Thank this. -
Put it this way.....Who owns the truck you drive?....If it isn't you....You're working for someone else....and you agreed to the conditions that you work under.....
Some of you act like you were forced into trucking....Geebus...Some here act like this is almost like Stalinist Russia.......
Get a clue.....You work because they pay you....Is it the fault of the employer that you have a problem with the wages and conditions you agreed to and then changed your minds?
I'd like to see any of you who are whining to go back about 30 years ago....Unlike today's coddled youth...People back then (And I was one of them) actually worked.....TAK12LLC, Licensed to kill and Hammer166 Thank this. -
No one said PTI is only a requirement from the company... What is being said is YOUR ARE WORKING PERIOD... PTI is part of your job for the safety of others around you and yourself... This doesn't make it any less of a job function for which you should be paid.. Your not only checking it out for the safety of the public and yourself.. You are also doing it for the companies benefit. Cause if you didn't check out your truck to make sure it was safe and killed joe public... Not only are you going to be fine/jail/fired your company will also receive hefty fines (more then the driver) and could potentially risk having the company close it's doors for good.... So YES you are doing it for the companies benefit, as well as your own and the public and DOT...Charli Girl Thanks this.

I didn't disagree. In fact, I whole heartedly agree with you. If I'm causing division by stating what I believe is the only way this gets righted, then we're not collectively ready to fix it. We complain all the time. We need to at least start talking about what it takes to get the ball rolling, and those of us that are ready to do something about it need to get an idea of whether or not we collectively have the spine to get it done. If not, and the majority is content to stand by and do nothing, then the climate is right to leave and take advantage of a workforce who is willing to work for nothing.

So if you are not getting paid to do the PTI....Whose fault is it again?
Do you have a brain and a mouth? -
Here's how this has been since the days of the Horse and Wagon....To paraphrase Evan Lockridge...
"You can't get two drivers to agree on the price of a 'free' cup of coffee....How in the Hell are you going to get a whole entire industry to agree on everything else?" -
well there ya go. Yep, heard it a million times. And here's a little secret: it's like that everywhere.
You ever see people fighting over political party platform issues? You know, as if any senator or congressman really cares about who has abortion? Just vote for me baby
(don't take that as anything more than an example, I couldnt give less of a **** about either mainstream party)
But yes, in all seriousness , I agree. after all, people are already popping up in this thread doing the flounder -- thank you sir may I please have another -- thing. -
