If you are commercial you have to be 21 regardless of weight. If your trailer has a gvwr you have to have a class A cdl.

You don't have to be 21 for intrastate and every trailer has a gvwr , not all require a class A . I have known plenty of hotshotters that never got a Class A .

You need to worry about hauling authority . I'd recommend leasing with a hotshot carrier . They'll tell you their requirements for the truck and trailer .

I've been seeing more new hotshot truck and trailer setups lately.
Next year they'll be a lot of well used equipment for sale. I looked at the new piss water burning fords and they run 50-60K
How can you make money at a 800-1000 truck payment I wonder? You've limited yourself to less than 15% of the market not to mention there's some companies that won't load the smaller trucks and some brokers won't load new MC#'s or less than a B rated carrier.

Yup , to make those payments they need to run 2,500 to 3,000 miles a week . I don't see the new Fords lasting 2 years . I knew a couple of Duramax owners doing well but they moved up to Freightliner M2's .

Ford seems to think the newest motor is the 2nd 7.3.
