I don't drink while I'm on a run.....
That's right....I'm like a lot of the "Old Farts" you mock.....
I'm a gentleman....I'm courteous.....I obey the laws....I treat my customers with respect....
That's called "Being a professional".....Something that is sorely missing from many of our youthful drivers of today.....
Btw....A/C and leather seats does not make you a driver.......
Why do we let them get away with it? And why doesn't the government protect drivers

Amen brotha!!! If its not work, then you shouldn't be drawing on that line " on duty" But some will argue that bc they have gotten so used to it. The reality is things are GOING to change and the ones that argue progress will also benefit...They may not like that extra income, but they'll get used to it..wink wink I'm not young but I sure like the way they are thinking and bringing FRESH ideas my way.. The worst thing you can do is have a "closed mind" ....
-
did I say it made anyone a driver? what I said was...it's progress and moving forward.AND IT FEELS SO GUUUUUD! Lol I'm not young neighbor, far from it! But I like the fresh ideas. I like progress.
And if this younger generation can "fix" some of the problems in this industry with new ideas,I'm all for it. more power to em... -
I'm paid by the mile, plain and simple. I do not expect to get paid for pre trip, en route inspections, or post trips. It's not working for free in my opinion. You knew what you were going to be paid for when going to the company.
I find it amazing how people think they're "entitled" or have the "right" to something.
At a 9-5 Job you're paid hourly or salary, so, you want to be paid for a pre trip? Should the boss of the 9-5 guy pay his employee for driving half an hour into work? Of course not.
I get paid by the MILE, my pay begins when I turn the key.Hammer166, RetiredSarge and Working Class Patriot Thank this. -
That's right. Too many people on this forum think "well this is how it has always been, plus it's part of my job to do it even if I am not getting paid" instead of thinking "I should be getting paid for doing something I have to do for my job"
We ALL understand PTI need to be done.. The problem is too many people are brainwashed into thinking it's ok to not pay a driver for work preformed.. Riding on the reason that PTI is something you must do and we will take advantage of that by not paying them... The industry get's away with it and the rest is history!!! -
Actually you pay begins when the wheels start rolling.. Starting the truck is FREE....
This doesn't make sense about paying a employee for driving time to work and comparing to getting paid for pre-trip... The guy driving to work is driving to work in a personal car to get to a job that will be paying him money to do something unrelated to his car.. Just the same as you driving your personal car to work so that you can get into your rig and start driving.... So your example makes no sense.. The car has nothing to do with the 9-5 guys job (unless of course he is a business person using car for business, in which case they are paid)..... The PRE-TRIP has something to do with you WORK... It involves a piece of equipment you need to use to perform your duties...
You guys who argue the point must like working for free... Denying the fact that your performing a duty as part of your job... You just don't want to admit your getting ripped of your time spent working (and again not just PTI isn't involved... waiting times, breakdowns etc...)..... We are gonna go around in circles so mid as well just drop it and you can keep working for free, while I get paid for ALL time worked... If you want to put $4000+ a year into your companies pocket then have fun with that... 4000+/year x how many employees in your company is saving your company probably 100,000 of thousands maybe even millions... Good think your a company man and willing to work for free for your boss... You mid as well just tell them not to pay you by mileage cause driving the truck is part of your job and you don't expect to be paid for doing duties that come with the job... lol
Have fun..lockednloaded Thanks this. -
BTW - There are companies out there that pay for PTI, wait times, border crossing, breakdowns etc,, .... Companies that value drivers and know they should be compensated for work performed... It's just a matter of finding them and applying...

When the customer pays the truck by the hour, the driver will be paid a percentage of of that hour. The same goes for pay by the mile. When you start to think more like a business owner (even as a company driver... I know it's a lot to ask) you will have a better grasp of the cost of operations.
