Why do we let them get away with it? And why doesn't the government protect drivers

Life is about choices....Not one person since 1865 in this country was forced to work as a slave....

I think i saw him the other day talking to a senator,, trying to work out a deal for more taxpayer subsidies. Man I thought only the tech boards quoted that stuff on usenet way back when. Kinda funny seeing it now popping up on a trucking forum .. Blast from the past.

 

That's the COST of doing business Driver...... You can't expect to work for free just because of cost of operations... If your a company driver it's not your problem (or responsibility) on the operations cost.. You don't own the business you just work for it... Why should you work for free for the own of the company because of cost of operations.. If the money can't paid to drivers for time worked then maybe that company shouldn't be in business...

I would never own a business and expect my employees to work for free... Why should my employees work for free?????

 

Just wait.....Soon someone will compare company drivers to Winston Smith or Guy Montag....

 

Name any business that makes a profit from stealing their employees' incomes again....

Oh yeah.....If you name just even one....Post where in their Mission Statement that says that's SOP.....

I'm not whining and cry.. If you get that impression then I am sorry but I am just making valid points... I sir do not work for free, so I have no reason to whine and cry... I get paid from the time I enter my yard until the time I leave to go home (and not only in my local job...before my local job I ran NY, PEN, OH, MI and Ontario all on the hour.. Plus my company paid for hotels, border fees and meals)...

Your right life is about choices.... We make the choices and we live with them because we are thrown into a corner... If you want to lay down and take it cause in your mind this is how is "HAS" to be then go ahead and do it.. I don't care one way or the other I am happy with where I am at.... I used to be OTR paid by the mile and I used to do PTI for free (I was paid border crossing, tarping and downtime (but had to ##### to get this sometimes))... Did I complain about not getting paid for PTI...NOPE.. Does this make it right that you are doing it for free...NOPE... Did I get forced into this...NOPE but I did what I had to do to get into the industry..

It's attitudes like yours that the industry will never change.. Just go with the flow and do what has been done for many years.... They don't force me so that make's it ok for them to screw drivers all over the world to work for free doing PTI (and other things)... This is why the industry will never change cause no one wants to band together and make change... You just have the attitude "well if I refuse to work for free they will just get another driver they will, so I mid as well just work for free and keep my job" .... This is why nothing will ever change.. I am not saying it would be easy to change it either, it's not that easy to band a nation full of professional drivers to all just say "let's stop the industry from moving until our demands are met." I realize this... But this still doesn't make it right...

Your company is making profits so don't kid yourself.. So if you wanna take the hit in the wallet and allow your company to make more profits because you are so willing to chew away money then like I said before knock yourself out... Your only making the "upper" management even more richer!!!! So while they are driving BMW's, Benz's, Land Rovers etc... and your driving your Toyota Corolla to work... Make sure to tell your boss your glad you work for free so you can allow him to drive over priced cars while your driving something to just get you by in life..

 

Why do you assume that the company is getting paid for the trucks downtime?? Do you really think someone is paying them to wait to cross a border? NO... they are losing money too when ever the wheels aren't turning.

Does the company make anything when the driver takes 30 mins to get rollin after unloading or to go take a dump? NO... Company pays for what they get paid.

So I guess the question should be, why do you let them get away with it? People keep taking crappy jobs from companies that don't pay well, don't compensate for things and generally treat them poorly. Why would they change if people keep coming to the door?

If you want a good driving job you have to go find it. It won't fall in your lap. Crap, I moved 2000 miles to get the job I wanted. It's out there if you're willing to put the work in to find it.
