I am doing some research on the trucking industry and would love some information on what pitfalls and inconveniences y'all experience on a daily/weekly basis. Thanks!

    Too vague question.
Different operators run different freight in different ways.
Some are leased to the mega carriers, some are leased to smaller companies, some are on their own.
Then you get into the loads etc.
Container, van, reefer, flatbed, stepdeck, tanker, rgn, blade trailer, the list is near endless.
One guy/gal can pull a certain trailer but haul totally different loads with it than the next person.
I pull RGN's and blade trailers. Summertime is either the windmill blades or 14' wide combines, winter time is general oversize rgn stuff.
I guess one thing that all folks who buy their own truck and dont fall for a flease deal through a carrier could agree on, is too much government interference in general. Be it by state or federal.
Then of course the price of fuel, insurance, repairs, taxes, blah blah blah

OOs experience all the problems that other small business owners do and all the problems that truckers face as well.

Just research for myself, mainly. I specialize in software designed to build smartphone applications. I was just curious to see if there are any opportunities in the trucking industry where my skills could provide a service that could potentially help truckers/OOs in their day-to-day operations.

There's a never ending supply of people all wanting something for nothing, and also owner operators happily lining up and providing it for them. So my biggest gripe would be that, really the trucks have all the leverage but very few of them exercise it. This is a big problem.

How bout an app that will link to a shippers bank account so we don't have to worry about collecting detention? But that app would be nice too...along with visions idea.
