That's what I plan on doing. That, and I really don't want to drive reefer. I want to go flatbed. I will probably just go through their school, get my cdl, and head out to W&S for the training and go with them.

 

With CRE they will sign you to a contract with a finance company that you will be paying off by payroll deductions and if you plan on leaving early before the $2,995.00 at 18% interest loan is paid off, you will have to pay the balance of the loan off.

 

Well then I may be totally wrong about them. Mine was in the tank also due to my wifes problems. I thought about taking the money out of my business account but then decided they really didn't want me. The whole thing about the TAB thing was written up in a magazine stating W/S was first to use the deal to help people who otherwise would not qualify for a loan on their own.

Good luck tou you with England. I think it is all about each person and how they can handle the job of trucking. I don't think my Son's brother in law was ever cut out to be away from home for weeks at a time. He said the money was good.

 

I have a bankruptcy about 3 yrs ago, therefore my credit is bad. even though I am cleaning it up, do you think that would eliminate me from getting the loan to go thru WS school? dont want to waste my time and get my hopes up if they are just gonna shoot me down.

 

Most dont even do a credit check....they just rely on the contract of working for them for X number of months to pay the loan back..

 

Watkins/Shepard is tough on poor credit risks as they send your loan application to Transportation Alliance Bank and most lenders in this economy are looking closely at the credit risk that the applicant presents to them. Also with a slow down in trucking they can be selective who they choose to employ. I would talk to one of the W/S recruiters to find out what they say.

 

I am going to start training next Monday. Bonnie and Gwen have been great to deal with and after the feeling I get from them and after reading the posts from dan c I am certain this is a good company. I will continue to write about my experience with Watkins and Shepard.

 

hey Crenshaw. I would have been in that class if my credit rating was better. But, I will either be going to CRE that day, or this other company. But yeah, Gwen was nothing but nice to me. Hopefully, when the training is done, I will still be able to work with them and go through their 10-day course. Anyone know how often they have their 10-day thing? Is it once a month like their training school? or would it be 2x a month?

 

When it comes to learning how to drive a truck, Watkins Shepard can't be beat. They will teach you things that you would never learn elsewhere. I chose them because they don't use trainers. When I finished school they handed me the keys to a truck and said go be an adult and do what we taught you.

The price though.....I brought a $500 cashier's check with me. After my first 30 days driving, they began to deduct $50 per week from my pay. I owned my education in less than a year. The total cost was $2200. They doubled it overnight for you folks, what a clever idea to raise the price and then use a bank to screen drivers!

They were fine for a starter company. As you might guess, I'm not there any more nor care to return although I could if I wanted to.....

Also, the recruters are very fine folks, especially Bonnie (who used to work in dispatch and whose husband is the head of the school) and Kurt, who was very kind and became a friend while I worked there....They both are part of the good of W/S which unfortunately didn't outweigh the bad for me.
