Why do we let them get away with it? And why doesn't the government protect drivers

ya think social issues are ruining this country neighbor ? Nah not even close. Hence the last election. It is a new day and time, and you will have to deal with the world changing bc no matter what it's changing for the better for all and not JUST some! Even if you were keeping your political views out of this thread, times will change no matter what. Otherwise we'd all be riding horses, and marriage would still be a contract of ownership!

But fortunately we are discussing the "the trucking industry" and how the DRIVERS see the direction of it. I recall the O.P. being " why do we let them get away with it"if you are happy with the industries environment,I'm sure there is a thread on" OMG I'm so happy with everything in this industry"

If you aren't happy with the industry, then you quit. Same applies to a country. If you aren't happy, feel free to move out instead of trying to change everything.

Tens of thousands of newbies quit every year . That's why CDL mill graduates get prehires . Carriers keep orientation classes full to get people to fetch abandoned trucks .

True, and not quite true. Carriers don't keep orientation full to get abandoned trucks. They keep orientation full because for every 30 students, maybe 2 of them will actually survive and make it more than 6 months.

The simple statement I made was--1000% really--show me--and telling me to check the news--is meaningless--the stats are out there--back them up--simple--and I dont mean fox or cnn or any of those other lying media outlets

Ok, maybe the companies should break down the pay for all who believe they are not getting paid for everything they do. Something like, we're going to pay you 40 cents for every mile you drive. of that, 25 cents is for actually driving, 5 cents for fueling, 5 cents for inspecting, and the last 5 is for opening the doors, unchaining, unstrapping, or opening a valve. ( whatever it takes for you to get M/T.

    Do you feel better now?

I have seen them drop like flies. Not like BJ & The Bear. Out here, Respect has to be earned. This job is for the strongest of the strong. Drive a truck in 6 weeks. Yea right. If you want it, it can make a wonderful life, or it can be the worst part of it. You need to be strong enough. Your body don't have to be big, just your mind. I'm 5' 9".

It's not a lifestyle for all. I always say it's about discipline ... and like you said having a strong mind...

So the question is (taking from the example J3411 made) ... is 40cpm enough to be out here away from home? Or is 40cpm more than enough for sitting down driving all day?

... but then again not everyone makes 40 cents a mile ...

Please tell me how the world is changing for the better.

    Just one example.

Just to let you know, you're being a horrible troll.

And just fyi, only 41% of the population came out to vote in the last election...of which Obama got 51% of that 41%. Certainly not an overwhelming majority that can be used as an example of what America wants.

If every company driver in the US was making $1/mi, the price of everything would skyrocket. For example: a gallon of milk would cost close to $15. The same applies to those McDonalds workers that were protesting their wages. Their low wages are what allows you to go into McDonalds and buy that $1 Big Mac. Employers will not lose their profit margins for a wage increase. Somebody will pay for it...and usually that somebody is the shopper.

And yes, I do firmly believe that social issues are ruining this country. SS and Medicare are unsustainable, and will be bankrupt long before I get to benefit from them...even though I'm paying into them; The ACA (aka Obamacare) is a complete mess. It will increase insurance premiums by upwards of 150%, cost the taxpayers almost $2,000,000,000,000 (yes 12 zero's) over the next decade while being overseen by the government organization that is involved in a huge scandal where they targeted non profit groups based on their religious or political affiliation all with the purpose of promising to offer 44,000,000 uninsured Americans affordable insurance ...yeah; Granting amnesty to millions of illegal aliens while doing nothing to secure the border; Ordering faith based employers to provide contraceptives free of charge regardless of the consequences; Common core. Should I continue?

You are a socialist and that's fine, but your idea of social progressiveness has nothing to do with technological progress such as leather seats, a/c, and riding horses.
