ANYBODY CAN BEAT PROGRESSIVE! Call up Great West OOIDA might not insure you but great west requires 23 and 1 year exp I believe. They're pretty good about rates. But I don't think highly of progressive at all. OOIDA said my insurance should drop as a steel hauler...progessives it jumped almost $1,000/year. Not impressed and service sucks. Last time I called progressive directly after my agent had gone home I got a guy that couldn't hardly speak english was not impressed at all and you'll never talk to the same person twice even if you ask for them. Also go through an agent don't call them directly as progressive will pull your credit score which in most cases can raise your rates. I managed to save about $3500/year going through an agent that didn't pull credit. It's actually not credit scores they look at either it's the liabilities you have. Our credit scores are still excellent so obviously they're checking the liabilities. But that's just my experience with them. Have anouther year of this crap and then I'll be done with them...they'll get a nice letter from me as well as for the time and agrivation they've caused me for screwing up my billing numerous times as well. Yet they're still an A+ company...probably the only trucking insurance company that will pay out on rusted steel as well morons!

There have been those who have started with little or not experience and gotten insured through Progressive. Without some experience it is difficult to find a decent rate from any of the commercial truck insurance companies. There are some second tier insurance companies that may offer insurance for those with less experience. Lancer is one company. I believe that they are owned by Northland or one of the larger insurance companies, but are not as large and considered a second tier company. That doesn't mean that they are not as good, only that they may not have as many assets as the parent or larger insurance companies.

Do Brokers look at your insurance company and require that they pass some minimum level besides the insured amount?

What I mean is if someone went with a second tier insurance company, can it cost loads because some won't load you.

Some brokers and shippers look at the rating that is given by AM Best. You will find that most of them look for a rating of at least B+ and some want a rating of A- or better. As long as you have insurance with one of the national insurance companies, you should not have a problem. I would recommend that you contact an insurance agent that deals with a number of insurance companies and let them find a company that works best for you.

You can call Amber at McGriff Siebels 503-943-6635. They have offices all over the country. This is the office that writes most of their commercial truck insurance. They write for a number of different insurance companies. They recently gave a friend of mine a quote and they were cheaper than anyone else he called.
