If you took your 2 hour off-duty anywhere in your 11 hours driving yes in fact you only need 8 hours in the sleeper berth to be legal again.
Nobody drives 11 hours straight, and that's not what we're talking about here.25(2)+2 Thanks this. -
I have but try to at least get fuel sometime during the 11 to break it up a little bit. If I can work a split break, I prefer to do it that way.

Someone sitting behind a desk brainstorming to justify their job. I know! I'll make a sign for dumb truck drivers today. Hmmmm, now where to put it? A truck stop? In an industrial area? Ahh, I know a rest area!
What would they do without me? I just saved 1000 people. (pats self on the back)

I interpreted the signs as Illinois simply reminding you that taking your 10hr break in their rest areas is kosher. If you read the posted regs at a California rest area, they still post an 8 hr limit from back in the day. I guess Caltrans figures nobody is really timing you.
FWIW, Texas posts a 24hr parking limit so no 34 hour resets, sowwy! -
I thought this thread was about a funny sign at a rest area, not another arguement about how 1 person interpretes the HOS rules compared to the next. Jeez people

Funny you mention this as just yesterday when getting fuel a 4 wheeler pulling a large trailer asked me if he could drive for 11 hours and restart after 10.
-
False. Your 8 hour has to come first.
An example, you come off a 34hr restart. You drive your 11. You have to take a 10 hour break.
If you drive 8, you can take an 8 hour break, then drive the remaining 3, as long as you don't go over your 14 (with the 8 hour break not included). Then you finish the 3, then take the 2 hour break, then you have 8 more hours to drive, and 9 hours left on your 14. -
Jesus, why couldn't they have left the old split rules intact, it was so much simpler back then.
BoyWander Thanks this.
