I can under stand the ones that have gensets. To me I don't like them.

I would rather use an inverter system. Cuts down on the needed run time. If you do use a genset and a inverter to cut down on genset run time during low power run times then you run into the issue of charging the batteries. Converters are hard on batteries and with batter chargers you end up with bad harmonics or a bad power factor so you would need to up size the genset so you don't shorten the life of the head.

When I do pull up to a genset rig they don't shut them off. With my APU it only runs if the A/C needs to run or if my batteries need to be charged. Most of the time my APU dose not cycle much.

I just had a used Thermo King Tri Pack instaled here in Phx for 5900.00+ tax with under 10000 hrs. complete new AC/Heat and full service on motor at the local TK dealer.

compared to my kart racing engines, it should last a while , geared properly we could achieve and maintain at 6200 rpm the same lap times as others running 7200 rpm and actually pull off the corners better as we had more torque at low rpm. you should see a dyno run on a 15 horse engine, tons more torque at 2000rpm than at 6000.

so far I am loving the pulley kit, I hear no difference in the engine when load is put on the generator as the a/c unit cuts on and off.

Here is my opinion on it all, to attempt to cut down on any arguments etc...
I CHOOSE to run the EU3000 and rooftop AC.
Others CHOOSE to run a full blown APU system.
Others still, have a hybrid of whatever.
The FACT of the matter is guys, doing anything is better than nothing. Run a $249 gas generator from Harbor freight and window AC unit, or go build a $20,000 custom diesel generator etc. Either way, the fuel savings are more than worth the effort.

Looks like a new rig is in my near future, as in next week possibly!
Should have seen the look on the financing girls face, after she asked me if I was going to cut a hole in the roof of a brand new Western Star, and I gave her my answer.......:biggrin_25523:
It just saves too much money to NOT have something to provide heat and air conditioning inside the truck when sitting.
Dealer is moving the fuel tanks, to make room for a new Honda EU3000 generator. Leaving the old one on the truck for the next driver to enjoy.

I don't think it really matters what way you go. I love the tripac, even with all the problems I have had with it. those problems spawned from not being taken care of properly by the previous user. the next guy might hate a tripac even if it never breaks or has the slightest problem. whatever you use to keep the truck from idling, as long as it does not interfere with the trucks ability to operate properly, is your choice and does not mater if its thermo king, carrier, or a window mount with a cheap homemade generator, as long as it does its job.
and don't get um in a bunch leftlane that generator kick was not geared at you, just an example. by the way, we use a Honda generator to power our shop at home and our house if a storm knocks the power out. those things put out a load of power for a long time.
