Why do we let them get away with it? And why doesn't the government protect drivers

Ok......Jeffrey Katzenberg....Ex Walt Disney CO. exec......Mike Ovitts....Ex Walt Disney CO. exec....

Both men were high up on the food chain...Not your typical "Cast Members".....Both were still "At-Will" employees of the board.....

Imagine if a company can terminate the services of senior execs with out a good reason....And yet you can't believe "Time Card Puncher" receives anything less?

This is always a contemptuous topic. To speak for myself here I'm a new driver just going for a couple weeks here. It is interesting to watch all the crap that drivers go through to be able to even gain the experience. By this I mean a sharp learning curve and accepting tremendous amounts of personal responsibility.

What most people want is a way ahead. Then there is so much required training that requires commitment because of financial investment. The reason I wanted to learn how to drive was to be able to make a just a little more then I found I could with my college education. It just seems more challenging to be able to make a living as an average person. Or to make a decent wage as an "honest" person by honoring others and your self. The occupations requiring college degrees are saturated, we have seen that college is no longer a sure bet to higher quality of life like it was for my parents. Though example of a sure bet is the medical health industries and who is the largest customer the older generation. Yet who is best qualified for these jobs woman and the highly intelligent.

There is a lot of indication from the boomer generation that people of the younger generation are lazy and want everything without work. In some regards I agree and consider it a result of the times. Like a bad barrel of apples.

I'm a little skeptical when I see the older generation who get pissed at the younger generation. This because the boomers in my opinion had it pretty good. Unions, pensions, sex, drugs, and rock and roll. The younger generations have become hedonistic on hippy ideals and it almost seems like there is nothing to culturally live for. Its called post modernism. In art it has been depicted as the barely clothed woman with her children in a industrial waste land.

Though do not get me wrong I appreciate so much of what I have and have been given. As well as the opportunities that technologies provide. I just fear for the coming 25 yrs and if the declining trend of the average person will continue.

So after this manifesto I would just suggest that you older people give us younger people a chance and recognize that we all generally want the same things. Love, life, and liberty. Maybe write a couple letters to some folks and read some good books when getting loaded.
Sometimes hard work is rewarded but most my life it has is just been skimmed off like milk fat. I say put the money in my hands but sometimes you start to believe you are worth what you are given.

Yeah, because it happened to a few means it'll happen to everyone. :biggrin_25526:

FYI, you're never your own boss. Even as an O/O, you're still working for someone.

Typical liberal debate style. Put down the other side without offering an argument to back up your position. If anybody is uninformed in here, it would be you. You are blinded by the left wing glamour, and want to get rid of the economic system that has allowed you to supposedly do very well. I for one would much rather talk to the guys about WWII than to hear some whiny ### freeloader complain about how the government didn't give them their free cell phone yet.

Just look at how all this technology is benefiting us though. We have cameras on every street corner and drones in the sky to watch over us; a government database for our medical, financial, educational, and social records. We have a government that is able to search your cell phone records, email records, and even your home or business without probable cause or a subpoena thanks to the Patriot Act. All so that our overlords can make sure that their subject are behaving. You just keep on keepin on, but I promise you that, one day, you will wake up and realize just how wrong you really were...and by then, it will be too late to fix it.

If you think that I an uninformed, then you are barking up the wrong tree. I am still waiting for you to answer my question and to prove me wrong.

I disagree with this..... I make good money (about $80,000/yr), wicked benefits, paid sick time, pension, overtime after 8hrs, start with 3 weeks holidays etc..) and my job once I reach 10 years of employment is 100% locked in... Prior to those 10 years my job is still pretty much locked in thanks to the union... It's not easy firing a union employee (they need good reason, not just any silly reason) and even when you do get fired, you will get your job back...

Like I said in prior post... I seen that OTR is a pretty big rip off to drivers who work hard and long hours and get paid close to min wage and even the ones who make more then minimum wage usually still are not making that much money per year.... Yes there is aways exceptions to this, but I am talking majority... I changed what I didn't like (OTR) and got a job with the Government driving a truck being home everyday.... When I speak in the thread I am not whining because I am not even in this situation, but I am expressing my opinion about the topic of OTR guys getting ripped off for time worked...

Yes so wages go up and then market prices go higher... This is a true statement but think about what your saying.... "It's because your eating into more profits for the company".... You know what I see when I read this... GREEDY and proves my points.. The rich get richer and this is true because of things like the above statement... They are more worried about making huge profits so they can weed the "upper" managements pockets which more money then needed in life... As long as they have money to pay for things like wage, operating cost, merchandise etc.. and still turn a profit I don't see why they need to gain the maximum about of profit... Maybe they can share the wealth and pay people a decent wages for they can afford some of the nicer things in life or even lead a normal life... Everyone wins.. The driver (or employee of whatever job they do) gets to make a decent living and afford to live a little better, the company still is turning a profit, and upper management are still getting paid hire then the average joe blow... I'm not saying a trucker needs to make as much as upper management because well you drive a truck and it doesn't take any education.. Unless you into specialized transportation.... I am just saying they could be compensated for all time worked... Really your not going to cut into too much profit paying this times spent doing a PTI or downtime..

okay sweet cheeks,I'm really tired of your mouth! I've tried to keep politics out of it,but you won't shut your mouth...Let me explain something,if we were to go toe to toe politically ,I'd eat you alive, that's number one. You are not debating some uninformed twit that just drives a truck...I've been in business for myself since 1987 and have been on my own since I was 11 yrs old, while your were still attached to momas apron strings,so don't go telling me a ##### thing about what I think, know or will ever know.

Second of all,if someone disagrees with your opinion,or your political party,in your eyes they must be wrong. But you can disagree all you want Sunshine ,who's your President? Who has control of the Senate and soon to be Congress . I have very good friends that might be on different party lines, but their educated people who aren't into bullying. We just agree to disagree. Your bullying is a joke, you scare no one,and you have definitely picked the wrong person to try and change sweet-p...so go preach your rhetoric somewhere else...

As far as free phones, what is your obsession with phones man? Every post you're yapping about someone getting a free phone. Send me one will ya? I haven't seen one post on here about anyone not wanting to make an honest living. All I see are people getting (trying w/out your criticism) on these forums and inquiring about jobs or how to make it better. Go a cigar and some geritol and relax partna!
I might let you wash my truck when your done...
