When I got out of my refresher course, the owner, a former OTR driver, told me: "Keep your mouth shut and don't turn down any loads." It isn't that easy, but it's pretty good advice, a good point of reference. Planners will send a trip that isn't too attractive, but they need covered. If you just take it and don't complain about it, they're more likely to send a good trip sometime soon. You also have to remember that transporting goods isn't about the company, or the driver, as much as it is about the customers who are relying on us, and who are sending the checks that pay us. If you deliver on time, and don't expect the gravy trips all the time, you should be valuable to any company.

Go company! Don't lease right away, you can always switch to lease at any time
Don't believe the lease vs company stuff in training they tell you they work for leasing not trucking. They are salesmen trying to get you to buy the yugo don't fall for it. Just stick to your guns and go company if you like it then go lease . I am company my miles are good not the bull they tell you in training.

I love transAm can't wait to go there I just wish they would work on the 2,500$ down payment for pets but I can live with it. How are things now? Are guys waiting for trucks still or what's up with that?

The benefit of this forum is the breadth and variety of personal experiential comments. Some drivers have good things to say, some not so good. Like my former career (aviation) most employees think "that" company is a better one than "this" one and that "mine" is the worst of the bunch. Getting into trucking takes vision and the knowledge that your probationary year is critical. If you turn the CB down, don't spend all day whining and moaning in truck stop driver's lounges, keep your ears and eyes open, get helpful hints wherever they are, and hone your craft, your second year will be better than your first.

Many people have succeeded; whether a particular person succeeds is up to that person more than any driver manager or company. After all, it's not TransAm or Swift driving the rig. It's me.

I drove for Werner for 2 years and never saw 3 in a truck. As long as I was there it was 1 student to 1 trainer. Not saying Werner is a great company but they are not bad to cut your teeth with.
