Going to become an owner operator and from what I've read online, I have to have some form of established drug testing policy and have random and pre-employment testing? Is this necessary if I'm the only employee? What is the best way to get this done in a manner accepted by the government? I don't touch drugs, and this seems understandable as you don't want a bunch of dope heads running all over the interstate, but it seems somewhat excessive at the same time. Anyone care to shed some light on this for me? Thanks for the help!

If you are going to lease to a company the company you pease to will handle your drug testing. If you file for your own authority you have to have a drug testing program in place for yourself even if you are the only employee. You can get a drug testing program through ooida for $100 includes a preemployment, 4 random, 2 probable and a return to duty. That is per year. That's who I use. DO NOT USE FOLEY CARRIER SERVICES!!! I have had nothing but bad luck with Foley a few years ago they weren't bad but its gone to hell. There are a few places that offer drug testing make sure you compair apples to apples and not just on price. Also make sure they have a good network of places you can go to be tested.

I went to their site and read a bit, but didn't see how much they save on fuel. Do you have a feel yet for what percentage off the pump price you get with their card?

Go to the FMCSA site and see the driver requirements . Not only drug testing . You need inquiries to past employers , copy of MVR , long form physical , and more .
Then go to vehicle and see what is required for DVIR's etc . If you just use one truck and trailer a DVIR probably isn't required
