I have never gotten "called in" or stopped/cited for obstructed plate, and I've had two Level 3 Inspections (OH and AZ) while hauling an OD load.

Happened to me in Oregon.

Having the plate covered can and will cost you.
Like AZS posted Or. and some of the other western states will pop you on that due to they key in your tag number coming on the scales -
Roll through an Oregon scale with your front plate covered and I assure you they will want to have a visit. Same with the trailer, Oregon officers love to spot oversize banners covering a trailer plate, reasonable cause for a traffic stop and prostrate exam.
Simple solution, every truck has a grill and every pos truckstop has zip-tie's
Cluck Cluck and dirtyrabbit Thank this. -
Now that's a crack up, my very first OTR oversize load, (which came out of Longview Wa.), Oregon pulled me in to inform this driver that his plate was covered by the front banner. Then he informed me the sun was setting and there was no parking for the next half hour, so he suggested I settle in for the night right where I was parked. Never had been out there so I took his advice.

That was a uneventful trip

When I got to the first scale on I80E, I got the green, but pulled in anyway. Asked the DOT Blitz officer if I needed to come in and he said not unless I get waved at or got the red light. He didn't seem to like the blitz that was going on. He was a bit tired, grumpy, and very wet

I'm going to haul my second oversize load from Waterloo, IA to Tekoa, Wa, then on to Tacoma, WA.
It is going to put me at 14'4" and I think 110" or so wide and 42000#.
Is RT20 just South of Waterloo even doable with my oversize? I'll probably have to stay on the interstate.
I have never been this far into the Great North West. Any advice? This is going to be a interesting trip

You mean US20? If you are going to the NW why would you want to run that way? Just go up I-380, 218, 18, I-35, I-90. Good luck out of WA with Mercer, most of the loads that agent out there gets are off a load board, and by the time he calls to book one when a truck commits to it, it is already gone
