Before they changed the road, you could expect to see at least one truck going over the side of the mountain when it rained or snowed. Of course, the driver was usually killed in the accident. It was usually a tanker or truck hauling swinging beef.

On the old I-24 hwy. Some trucks were known to go off the end of the runaway truck ramp that was on the right hand side.

Here's what the old Monteagle Mountain I-24 looked like before the changes. This is a home movie I found on youtube from the 70's. Notice all the trucks were cabovers. It was rare to see a truck with a hood back then.Last edited: Jun 7, 2013
