Today I ran from Daytona, FL to Savanah, GA and back to Daytona. Drove through torrential rains both ways and I as luck would have it I managed to get to go through the bypass lanes at every scale going north and coming back south. The last hurdle before getting home was Palm Coast, FL scales southbound. Of course right before getting home I get pulled for a level 1 inspection.
I wasnt worried about the inspection, actually I was glad to get one because the truck I drive is well kept and it would be nice to sort of get DOT acknowldgement that all my pre trips and all the owners attention to keeping the trucks maintained were worth it.... So after getting the officers undivided attention for about 45 mins the verdict...NO VIOLATIONS.... So I was happy..I signed my paperwork and the officer guided me out of the bay and says have a nice day! So as I am leaving I ask if I am going to get a sticker. He said there were no violations but I had two brakes that were at their "max allowable" ( He didnt elaborate and I didnt ask for more detail...it was a long day with all the rain...lol) ..So while its not a violation it is a potential violation..... So I got a piece of paper saying no violations but no sticker...
I didnt want to argue so I just went on my way but my thought was if there are no violations then there are NO violations everything is within the legal limit.. I think I should have received a sticker.

-
LOL.. I agree.. I was happy to get what I got..Its always nice to hear no violations...
airforcetoo Thanks this. -
In simple terms its a complete inspection of the entire unit. Truck and trailer..They go over everything..I pull into a bay and straddle a pit so they can get underneath and inspect brakes and the under carriage.. There is a long list of what is inspected but thats the nutshell versionairforcetoo Thanks this.

Don't forget your spare fuses. . . Buddy called up to tell me to go buy some, AZ had him out by Flagstaff and couldn't find no violations. So then the guy ask for his spare fuses, he couldn't come up with any, and he noted that on his report. After we laughed for a while, I pulled into Braman Ok. and bought a small pack of fuses, before I hit the Kansas line.
mp4694330 and airforcetoo Thank this. -
if you happy for acknowledgement that you were doing your job. how come you didn't notice the brakes. so you could have gotten that sticker?

at least you didn't get any points. -
Got a level 1 one time... I think officer was upset with my company and wanted to find something wrong at any cost. He laid under truck, measured every inch of it. Did a complete air brake system check, paper work, logs... And all he found was a chip on the windshield which was too small to be a violation... But for lack of knowledge from my part at the time, I accepted it. Just to find out later, that according to the code, that wasn't a violation. So, I filed a challenge via that Data Q thing on the FMCSA website. Took 8 pictures of the chip, from all possible angles, with a ruler next to it just to show it wasn't big enough to be a violation... Sent pictures with my challenge, called DOT several times, sent fax... They admitted they made a mistake and faxed me a "Clean Inspection" to replace the dirty one. But then, I had to keep calling office of FMCSA in GA to remind them to remove my points... After 4 months they removed the points. What a pain!!!
So now, I carry a CSA guide with me just in case I am inspected and they find something. I want to know the code and what it exactly means before they print the report. -
The officer is just a man, he can't eat you. If he would have given my papers, I would have questioned him more.

The brakes were legal.. I dont use the tools they use to inspect the brakes each morning..lol Besides from pretip to post trip there were tropical storm rains... I might have drown getting under the truck this morning

I was just thinking that in 3rd grade we would get stickers on spelling tests if you got a good grade.. So when tests get handed back you look for a sticker....35 years later ....still looking for that stickerairforcetoo Thanks this.
