My truck has the big boxes with 2 batteries on each side also. I have lots of stuff in them including a tool box, all my 2" ratchets and straps and edge protectors.
Where is everyone #2!!

Having this one paid off for a year or two, I will HATE having a payment. But I also really HATED having to pay in as well as pay quarterlies, so which devil is the least annoying?
Payment on $125k is a lot more per month than one of under $100k, so that is the way I am thinking right now. Been offered some nice used ones, but for a 2008 with 420k miles on it, they are asking mid $70k! seems like a decent used (@2007) one with low miles, is going to be mid 60's, so what is a guy to do?
When the warranty is out, it can get gutted and reprogrammed, but while it's under warranty it should be OK me thinks...
If I do replace this one, it will be with a truck that is worth something in 5-6yrs. So that rules out F/liners unfortunately!

Just keep in mind when you buy something to save on taxes you are spending .75 to save .25.
blacklabel, Blind Driver and Semi Crazy Thank this. -
Like I said though, to keep this one reliable for what I do etc, it is going to need a substantial investment, and still be worth half a 6 pack when its done....

It sounds like you've found a heck of a deal. Good luck!!!

And so far, i have not been able to line up a load out of Idaho, so maybe you can swing by and show it off on your way back thru LOL -
I doubt anything will be happening that soon!
Yes, the Star is advertised for just over $100k, so it will be just under by the time it's off the lot. He has been stuck with it since he bought it off another WS dealer in 2010, so he may be motivated. Time will tell
If you are in Id and I head back that way tomorrow, will shoot you a text though. I normally go 84-86-15-30 into Wy, unless I am heading South.
I did think about asking the dealer how high it is though......my RGN has a 18" ride height

What year is that older new star? I would be worried about seals drying out and shrinking thus leaking, I understand its still under warranty, but they don't pay for down time when its in the shop. To go thru your current truck would cost less than half I would imagine. If that WS was the same year as what you have now with the same drive line, miles, etc, how much more would it be worth?

That Star is a 2009, so maybe made in 2008. I was also concerned with seals, airbags, etc too. Warranty will be getting used me thinks for stuff like that.
If this (current truck) was a well spec'd Star, it would be worth @$40k from my research, maybe more with some work on the motor etc.
Yes I agree, if I spent $40-50k on this, it would have a new motor, tranny and so on. But the trouble is, it would still only be worth @$30k on a good day I think. It's full owner op spec'd, but still a mid roof XT Columbia with 882k miles and a Mercedes motor that folks are unduly scared of over here in the USA.
Out of curiosity, I called Midway in Mo about a paintjob (faded paint), reman motor and tranny. Consider that will still get me @3HP, and they quoted "every bit of 50 grand".
I also have been onthe lookout for a pre emission Columbia with a 500 Detroit and 13 speed, after giving up on finding a motor with a Columbia wiring harness etc. Looking at @$12k for one of those that runs OK, but how long before an inframe is due? Not to mention the labor of doing the swap and still rebuilding a 13 speed. I can do the wiring, but dont have the facilities to swap motors or tranny's.
It's a tough call indeed.
