Buying truck in US and bringing back to Canada.

I got a 10 day temp permit/ins from SGI in Sask and the state of NM gave me a temp permit for my windshield.

 

Where are you going to? You can get insurance in most provinces, although you may have to dig a little. I provided a contact to another member here not too long ago in Alberta. Then get an "In Transit" from your province and the state you got the truck in and you should be good to go. That's how I did it.

 

Why do you need temporary insurance, you should have your policy take effect when the title is transferred to you (the day you pick it up). The way I have done it and the way it was explained to me is you need two in transit permits. One from the state that you are purchasing it from to get you to the border. And one from the province you will license it in to get your from the border to home so you can put a real plate on it. In transit permits are only valid for so manys days so you need to have a firm schedule. If you are brining a trailer as well you will need a seperate permit for those as well. If its a new truck or you bought it from a dealership ask for them to provide you with the permits for the states.
