I have a 379 with a Series 60 my shop loves that truck because there's plenty of room to work on the engine. My T8 on the other hand is tight. The N-14 takes up almost the whole engine compartment and to change drive belts in the middle of nowhere is a project. But that's another story:biggrin_25517:

I am surprised that not one person brought up weight distribution. Extending the hood gives a longer wheelbase and thus redistributes the weight.

I have, some people have poor taste, they will go buy every piece of stick on cheap chrome and put it all over their trucks, and ruin a perfectly good looking truck, and then overdo it with too many lights, there is a fine line between looking good and looking tacky.

Not a Peterbilt fan, I think they are way over rated. Prefer my W900, there is a reason they call them the worlds best.

Your right on one thing, some people over do lights and chrome, but that's our opinion. If they like it, so be it. The other thing is that, in my opinion, you sit ON a W900, you sit IN a 379!

I agree I just sold my 379 and got in a 03 W900L, and i must say the Pete, even though it was a 265"wb, it rode a hell of a lot better than my 290" KW. But hopefully i will have my 379 back someday :biggrin_25525:

Extended Hood is an leftover term from the bygone length-law days(pre bout '79) Currently used as a sales gimmick.Sure youre all are great.Whats on the inside matters also? Make Mine A W9 !

Engine size has absolutely nothing to do with it.... in Petes and KW its a class thang...course if you wanted to run a 16v92 detroit or some such power plant, a little hood stretching might be in order, ain't sure but would love to find out. Now that would be a high stepper with a 18spd and a 4x box

well if you're putting in a 16v detroit, why not consider a 'K'?

    Just a thought...

LOL...If you're refering to a kta Cummins 1150, I've never owned one but I rode in a KW many moons ago out in Wy with one packing a PAIR of turbos and a 6x twin stick that needed a diaper seatcover on the passengers side.LOVED IT !!!.And as for a detroit,I 'd rather have a Cat missing an injector than have one but those 8v92 and 12v's will honk on down the blvd. with some super long legs. But to stay on topic, the truck in my pics is a 119" and it has a 3406 marine cat in it(same lgth/wdth as any 3406) and it has plenty of work room.
