i would have asked for his supervisor right then and there. those stickers are a visual representation that the truck and trailer had been and passed a recent inspection. the DOT computer will also have that information, so the sticker is nothing more than a message telling the other DOT inspectors that your good to go.

Sticker in the window means nothing.

Got an inspection on Tuesday and then on Friday in the same week. Pointed it out to the inspector and all that she said was then it will be easy.

meaning i bet she had a daily quota to meet. i got done that way, showed them the paper and i was turned loose.

the sticker obviously means something, or else why would they stick it on the side facing most scale house observation windows? now what it means and who heeds that meaning are two different things. if i had a quota to meet on a daily basis, you can bet your hind end i would be picking the trucks that had stickers too. darn right it would be easy then.

She inspected me level 1 without leaving the car. It took 16 minutes and she did the report with false times showing about 50 minutes.

I feel your pain Zen...:biggrin_2557: Same thing happened to me almost 2 yrs ago... did my inspection, everything was fine. Started to drive... one hr later was stopped by hwy patrol. Why? Because one of the headlights was out... :biggrin_2554: It went out in transit... :biggrin_25510: And how in the world would I know? It was noon, bright sunny day, sun hitting my windshield... Silly me to have those headlights on... just because trailer says "We drive with lights on for safety..." DARN IT! Not any more.... :biggrin_25512:
I asked officer to let me replace the bulb... But he said NO... I showed him my CSA book, begged him to reconsider... That warning would give me 18 points for something that first, was not affecting anybody's safety and second, I had no way of knowing... And since I was going to pick up a trailer 2 hrs later, I would be able to detect problem before dark. But he didn't care at all... and kept making fun the whole time... :biggrin_25523: :biggrin_25510: Later on, I found out the bulb was good, just a little loose... And on top of that, company deducted $ 25.00 for the "dirty inspection"... It made me really angry for many days... :angryfire:

Interoperate it however you want, im just trying to answer his question. Isnt EVERYTHING on that truck officer discretion? When they shut you down because there is too much slop in your steering wheel, isnt that the same thing?

i had the same thing 2 weeks ago for a trailer tail light. only reason the lights were on was it was raining. but i rolled through des moines scale, then rush hour traffiuc. cop in traffic in front of me. pulled off to the side and got right behind me and turned on his lights. guessing the scale called it in. went to the first shop i hit. and all was good again. but light was replaced anyways.,

The stickers are color coded and each color represents 1Q of the year. Guntoter made a great point about the sticker being 90 days and if the inspector thinks the brakes would be in issue sooner then no sticker. But while it represents 1Q of the year I believe that if you get one corner of the sticker clipped it then a 60 day sticker and if two coners are clipped it tells DOT that it is a 30 day sticker..... If thats the case and a driver gets "no violations" Why not a sticker with corners clipped?

I also agree with the idea that either something is legal or it is not. The way I see it anything you find "legal" today could have a catastrophic failure tomorrow and suddenly be illegal. So how can anyone ever be sure on how long a part could last or continue to be legal. I still think no violations warrants a sticker:)

The clipped corner just let's other inspectors know which month the inspection was done in, it doesn't change the "term" of the inspection/sticker.
