Look maybe you enjoy working for a bottom feeder company but I don't. There's plenty of better companies that are always hiring, GTI, Pride and Halliburton to name a few. Yes I probably should've requested a different driver manager but after putting up with his abuse I decided I had enough fun.

Sounds like leaving Central was beneficial for all involved... Good luck to you then... Enjoy the company you now work for.

Well hello all. I had a great time in SLC this last week. I went camping on Antelope Island and our tent blew over and broke 3 of the 5 tent poles. I was able to get the tent up, but the kids would not get back in it, so we ended up shacking up at the Motel 6 in SLC. We went to the natural history Museum, the Zoo, Heritage park, the childrens museum, Lion house, and the planetarium, Lots of fun. I even got my lease taken over and know "Clifford" is in good hands (Unloader I was thinking Red headed bad ### might be a suitable alternate name) We left SLC at 2000 Tues and I started orientation at 1300 on Wed.
Even though I will be a DM I am also going to be a "casual" driver so I get to go through drive orientation. I have one more day and am studying for my hazmat. I got my doubles and triples, tanker, and passenger endorsements today. I only needed D/T, but the guy said it was the same price if I took one or all of them so I took them all and got them!!!
I take the hazmat in the morning and am stressing out. I keep doing practice tests and failing!! Ugggg!!! this is too much stress for a "Casual driver"
I start training on dispatch software on Monday and will "Shadow" for a week or less on Monday. Then I will get assigned 35-40 trucks as a "starter fleet" the following week.
Great job Aaron best of luckunloader, Arkansas Frost and Lady K Thank this. -
35-40 trucks is a starter fleet? Lol! My dm only has 35 trucks, although to be fair my first dm had like 80. Good luck moose, and enjoy sleeping in your own bed!

WOW... Busy!! Sounds like fun

Well its been a pretty easy going couple of days back on the road, even in the new truck.
PSU, that does sound like a good name, but due to the color of the truck being red I have already gone with Optimus. And before anyone hops on the "but Optimus is a PETE" bandwagon, note that in the original cartoon he was a red cab-over FREIGHTLINER. It's all in the details! haha.
Regardless of name, your old truck runs great. Shifts way smoother than my company truck did, that's for #### sure. Probably been put through its paces with all of your trainees.
LadyK, I think I read somewhere in this thread that you and your husband chose not to go with ATBS correct? I talked to a few drivers and they all mentioned problems with this that or another. So I opted out of the service and once I did the woman giving her little presentation would not answer anymore questions. Fair enough I guess.
My question that remains unanswered is do you guys collect receipts for your fueling or do you just use what shows on your settlement statement as a receipt for tax purposes? I also assume this is the only way you provide proof of other expenses like the truck payment and various tax and insurances that are deducted weekly?
Still have a lot to learn. Someone asked a few pages back, how in the world can we make it out here? I'm sure there are a lot of answers to this, but without my positive attitude I would have washed out somewhere in Kansas on my trainers truck. It's all about perspective and for me the "glass" is always "half-full!"

PSU, you lucky dog. Home every day? Does your wife really know what she's in for?
Truly, good-luck my friend and don't be a stranger.

For myself I think its the same as unloader if I didn't have the attatude and perspective I would have washed out after three days stuck in wvc with my trainer. I just keep reminding myself why I'm out here and that I have a long term plan that this is a part of.
As far as the comment about Central being a bottom feeder. I don't think a company that investes in new equipment and has nothing older than 3 years can be clsified as that I have seen some real junk on the road.Stroker73 and Arkansas Frost Thank this. -
Yahoo!! I passed my Hazmat!!!, They changed the plan on me a bit, but I will be going out with a driver trainer for 3 days next week, THEN computer training and shadowing. So I get to hook up and pull some sets next week, lets hope I do it right and don't flip the back wagon over in a slow left hand turn (apparently common) also we haul a lot of soda and apparently it's very easy to drop (tip over) a load in a 53' I bet it's worse in a set of doubles. Also an fyi the only reason I needed to get hazmat was because one of the products we haul is extremely corrosive. Any guesses?
