Been doing this for a lot of years! I second the Francis! A lot of the stick haulers do too!

Wilson 5000 but we have been told the Browning antenna is better, we run off a connex 3600 hp with a built in 150 watt linear:biggrin_25520:

Speeedy -- before anyone can make an informed answer (with the exception of Powder Joints's start of a description of a half-wave dipole above), we need to know what kid of surface you'll be mounting the antenna on or above. Without that info, all the opinions are about as worthwhile as answering the time-worn question, "How long is a piece of string?" or maybe "What does a boat cost?"

Nearly none of the the spitball-inspired antenna solutions above will answer your question; they only show what the posters believe work in *their* situations.

Otherwise, there'd be only one antenna manufacturer and one model antenna for *everyone*.

A similar question to your original one would be, "What tractor, engine, tranny, cab, and rear end should I buy to start out in commercial trucking?"

Give us a hint, or get used to lots of answers to questions that aren't really related to your situation.

Cheapo Francis' here too. Never had a single issue with them, and they tune in perfectly with no hassle, and did I mention the CHEAP part yet?
BTW, I run a Ranger 6900 HP with one, and it keeps a tune on most bands, at any power.
Save money for good coax IMHO.

I've been running my same Wilson 1000 for about 20 years trouble free, but they made them right back then, today if Im not mistaken, they got bought out. Anyway's, if I ever have to get a replacement, Im going with the FRANCIS, also.

+1 for the 5' Francis sticks. Best reception/sendout I ever had with my Cobra 29 LTD.
