Then stop trying to make it that eobr's magically make it ok. It doesn't.
The fact remains that the rules are so rigid that it becomes a major issue.
Eobr or paper. Shippers and recievers have no dog in the fight because so long as they can load amd unload with impunity to our HOS, they don't care.
Drivers are faced with bad situations beyond our control and forced to make them our issue. I am not allowed to count or supervise loading/unloading at most grocery houses. Fine, take your issues up with others at the other end. Keep me out of the middle of it.
If that's the case, it takes LESS then an hour to unload 26 pallets off a truck. If load is no touch to driver, then THAT is a realistic expectation to be completed. Not 5 or more hours.
Driving over your 14 after a breakdown.

There is nothing about this industry that's okay. Also, drivers fighting amongst themselves makes it worst. If you don't see a difference in anything I said, it's not my problem.
I run refer. I sit for hours in docs constantly. I drive 48 states. And 99% of the time I use all my hours, and legally. There is nothing else to say! -
The only thing I hear you promulgate is that eobr makes driving outside the 11 or 14 hour window ok, even if it's for 5 minutes.
volvodriver01 Thanks this. -
"The term in any emergency shall not be construed as encompassing such situations as a drivers desire to get home, shippers demands, market declines, shortage of drivers, or mechanical failures."
This sentence is from the guidence provided by FMCSA. Basically the additional 2 hours is only for unforeseen emergencies. I think a good example would be a thunderstorm that suddenly results in a tornado you could use the additional time but if there were tornado warnings ahead of time you should be aware of that and plan accordingly. Actually I think the only "emergency situation" that would come with no warning is an earthquake. So there ya go...If there is an earthquake youll have 2 extra hours to get to a truckstop -
Again, I never said it was okay! What is your problem? Sometimes it's a necessary evil. You have issues. I don't have time to argue with you about things I never even said! I am done with all of this!
-
And what about your 1% of the time? That means more than 5 minutes a week you are running illegal. If you suddenly are getting more miles, it means that the fools in the office are finally being forced to do their job before you are forced to do yours.
But it still does not address driver harassment or detention which is the guess of the biggest headaches in this industry. Drivers WILL be asked to do things and dispatchers will call and beg you to do it. If one is on paper, they don't have the information you have in front of you, the driver.
And that brings you to the root of the issue. Control. And who has it.
If a motor carrier CHOOSES to use EOBR to manage and control the HOS of it's drivers, fine, they can do it all they want in their business. It is, after all, THEIR business and their management style.
I DON'T WANT AN EOBR IN MY TRUCK. Nor should it be mandated for ANYONE that they should be had.volvodriver01 Thanks this. -
Okay, that's fine, you don't have to like it or want one. I never said you did. I don't think they should be mandated either. All I said is that I now have one, because the company I chose to work for installed them, it's a really good company, and it works fine for me. I have had next to no problems with any of it. In life nothing is perfect. I am not trying to push it on anyone at all, and I wish the shippers and receivers had they're own rules for us, but they don't. Why are you making this an issue with me? I don't know you, don't know how you run, and as a matter of fact don't care. I was stating my own experience and opinion. That's all!
-
Because you seem to like to make it out that running on EOBR is magically making things so much better. They don't.
I hope you enjoy your kool-aid.volvodriver01 Thanks this. -
so 11 hrs driving is the magic number thats when you fall asleep i guess, where did that come from,600 plus miles is not much really in 24 hrs what do you do the with the other time in that 24....well
