Are truckers legal squatters?

You're talking about a very few people and they still have a residence and pay taxes. These other guys that are talking about their quality of life is rewarding to them because they planned ahead. If one wants to work until he or she drops then they can. With good sound planning if you want to work a limited number of years and then go off and enjoy something else they can do that too. Whatever you chose it takes planning and dedication and what I've seen that's not what's happening with a large number of new drivers starting out.

 

Well now, that all depends. Some of us are Pointers, and some of us are Setters. But even the Pointers have to squat sometimes.

HAHA, go to a Flying J and check out the REAL squatters. They park their campers right in front and set up home. The other day I went out front of a Flying J and the Camper folks were out in their lawn chairs BBQing right in front of the gas station. I couldn't help but think this looked just like a scene from "RV" ROFL

 

WHAT? Truckers do not live in a "gray zone." Truckers are Freight Haulers, delivering the goods the nation needs. Truckers pay taxes and more taxes. Every dime a trucker makes is in the system..no working under the table like regular 9-5. The Truckers are regulated .. Truckers must fill out logs detailing every minute and every mile. There are regulations about when to drive, when to sleep. A 9-5 person would faint at the infringement of privacy and the level of control of the Federal Government has over every moment in a drivers life. Truckers have been called at home, off duty to report for a random drug test. Truckers have satellites telling the company where that truck is every minute..and if the truck doesn't have a satellite then the company can call and say.."What mile marker are you at?" Truckers are the most regulated, taxed people in this country. Truckers pay for the truckstops, buying fuel, food, getting the truck fixed. Truckers are not in any gray area squatting..What trucker has time to "squat?" Most are getting the 9-5 people's "stuff" down the road

squatter why heck no, I stand up to take a wiz. Good luck squatting after dark at most truck stops, there is no room and then you drive down the road and there is no room at the rest area so you drive on but then you come to the scales and they pull you out of service and let you park in the rear of the scale house. You can park on a ramp but first pull over your hood like you've a problem and tell the cop when he checks you that help is on the way then you can get some rest even if you need to lie about it.

 

Some truckers live in the truck, and claim legal residence in states with no income tax, maintain a CDL in that state, and are still liable for federal taxes. (whether they pay them or not)

The state I am a resident of has an income tax, but I do not own a home or rent a place in that state, currently. I'm paying for services I don't benefit from, and it's hard to believe the actually make it hard for me to renew my license without having a 'real' street address. I guess they'd prefer I try to get a section 8 apartment, food stamps, and whatever else I can squeeze out of them, instead of working?

 

I heard it's really hard to get a section 8 apartment. That the waiting list can be years long. Plus if you're not a "minority" I'm pretty sure you're excluded anyways.
