I started with Swift in 2002. I went O/O as soon as I could, which was march of 2003. Since then, I have paid off the lease and bought the truck outright. I bought a house. I have a savings account. I am now on my second truck! I have a brand new ford pickup. My wife quit her job in 2003, and has not worked since, becuz she doesn't have to.
Point is this...You CAN make money out here. You have to Budget every dime. You have to do your homework with fuel, get it at the cheaper place en route. Don't spend a lot of money on NEEDLESS things for the truck. I don't know who said it, but if you watch the pennies, the dollars will watch themselves.
There is no clear choice when it comes to being a lease operator. It depends on the person, and their commitment to the business. It depends on the persons circumstance, I would say if you want to go home every week then stay a company driver.
But to make a sweeping comment that NOBODY makes money on a lease purchase is not only misleading, it is a complete falsehood. Work smarter, not harder.
Different people have different work ethics, and business habits. You can make money out here. Every O/O that I have talked with about their bad experience, it has always boiled down to one of three reasons......1) unforeseen circumstances 2) Bad Business model 3) Unreal expectations.
The above opinion is mine, and mine alone. I currently run over-the-road, and that is all I do. If you find a flaw in the opinion, good for you. -
i take every thing i said about lease after that great talk !!!! wow

Personally, I feel anyone who has NO money for a down payment should not L/P, with Dart or anyone else. Starting with no money is just asking for trouble, IMHO.Down the road, Lone Ranger 13 and reefer75 Thank this.

If you lease a truck that the company holds the note on,you are not a businessman.
A businessman would not pay for the equity in someone elses equipment all the while servicing that client exclusively
COMPANIES are suckering drivers by telling them that thet will be "business men" rather than suckers that will not only live in the truck but pay for it as well.
A businessman can take his investment and apply it where ever they choose...........can you do that as a lease operator?
Once you sign a lease.......they own you as well as the truck. -
If this guy is a recruiter he is after his target audience, dip sticks that don't have a dime to their name and have no idea how to run a business.Lonesome Thanks this.

there are people everyday paying off their Lease purchase and do it wisely and there are people who save for years and buy a truck and then fail. One can not base your experience on someone else only on yourself and your drive to succeed. So good luck and GOD bless you all
Tennessee Trucker Thanks this. -
That's a lot shorter then my response, and gets to the point! Good post.

Here's the real operative ... there are good leases and bad leases. You have to have the ability to tell the difference and the ability to run your business ... Leasing is no less a business than being a straight up O/O. The biggest difference is that the threshold of entry for leasing is so low that any "dipstick" is allowed to do it, unqualified, ill prepared and destined to fail.
