Cummins vs. Cat

Thanks for the answers but I still don't grasp it.
Rather am not 100% convinced.
I tell you why , it is not really the heat that is driving the turbo.
It is the volume that is being pumped through it.
It is true that because of the heat in exhaust gases the volume is increased through expansion and therefor the indirect driving force.
By placing a silencer (Restriction) after the exhaust turbine causes heat after the gases have passed through the turbine so not sure how that works.
Perhaps it keeps the exhaust hot and as a result not so much heat is drawn out of the turbo housing and manifold by convection to a cooler exhaust.
I would think this is what an insulated (wrapped) exhaust and turbo blanket achieves with out the drawback of the added back pressure.

 

Not sure what you are trying to say? As far as the volume being pumped trough. Some motors can cope with that. If there is no restriction in the exhaust system they will burn valves. CAT no. Scania no. ADE yes. Cummins yes. Detroit no. Perkins yes. I don't know why but that is the way it works.

def cummings 550 up to 6 to 6.5 i have a 2014 t-800 with a hybrid genisis trailer dump in ohio , just got rid of a 2008 c-15 twin turbo although it was a michigan train my husband is the driver and hes been driving 38 years both otr and local dump semi and 6 axle straight truck he is so totally in love with his new truck we have had it 4 months now and he says at least once or twice a week god i love this cummingsso hope that helps

 

Glad to hear someone who has new stuff and is liking it. CA regs forcing me into a newer rig come 12-31-13. Have a 2014 full-aero 579 Pete w/ an ISX 550/2050, 18spd Ultrashift, 3.08 gears, 242" wb w/80" sleeper on order. I am hoping to see some decent fuel mileage from this setup. We run reefer cross country and it should be loafing most of the time so we'll see. About 1250 rpms at 65 mph in double over, 1440 at 75 when it's time to go trucking in order to make a schedule.

 

I need to start doing that. On my Pete dump truck the 6" straights sit pretty close to the cab so they don't get in the way on job sites and so I can fit in our 12' shop door. Things did get better last week after getting the AC fixed. Now I can at least roll my windows up!!!

 

I like Cummins & Detroit. CAT is good too, but I prefer the older CAT engines like the 3406B. We have a Cummins N14 celect + and its doing well.

 

Somebody stand up to fast in a low clearance area? As a collector of vintage oilfield engines I can tell you Cummins had engines on the market before 1920, cat is a good engine, but it gets way to much praise for being the oldest engine out there. Caterpillar was formed in the latter 20's 1926? when Holt and Best tractor companies where merged together. Just like John Deere buying out Waterloo Boy in 1921-22? They never built a tractor till then, they only built the plow in 1837, not a tractor. Sorry to get off course.

Cummins all the way only motor out there in todays world worth anything I drive a isx 550 only thing I don't care for is the engine fan is so strong have to shift it like the jake brakes on and fuel mileage ain't so great cats twin turbos acert motors suck always in the shop and don't pull worth a crap.

 

Navistar has Cummins power now . That icludes the CAT truck which is built by Navistar . I found this interesting . Medium duty ? That includes Classes 4 - 5 . I wonder if this is the same diesel RAM trucks have .
