you sir are a cop or a cop lover with that is lead like a sheep ... copied from other poster cause i dont feel like retyping what he already said.........The fact that he spent 17 days in jail, without due process... without being given ability/means to contact an attorney... and supposedly being held with no "defined" charges advised to him... is by itself an atrocity of any person's rights and of the criminal justice system! Makes me think you wear a Utah Highway Patrol badge or Box Elder County credentials.

yea so what if it is lawyer speaking for him its what there paid to do doesnt make it any less true if this were your case you would want the same to be said as they know how to properly word things

I didn't say it was 'factual' information he was being a jerk, just a probability or possibility. 'IF' being the key word.

No, I'm not a 'cop lover'.

I've run into a few that are jerks, but I don't come from a background where half of my relatives have been in jail, or prison, or convicted of anything, and I haven't, either.
I don't see a cop and automatically get nervous, because I am moral enough to conduct my life in a manner I am not going to be arrested for something. When i was doing illegal stuff when younger, I was lucky, I never got caught. I don't automatically think 'cops bad'.

The issues concerning his jail time will come out in the CIVIL trial. What makes you think we know all that happened?

If there were really issues with the county and jail over due process, and this was not an isolated situation.....don't you think the feds would step in?

The county jail may have screwed up. It may have just been an administration or paperwork problem, but they'll probably end up paying off the guy. (courtesy of the local taxpayers)

in all honesty. this story really don't sound legit. i've been in utah jails. and you usually go to court within a couple of days. and usually released. for minor offenses like his. my events were always on the weekend. court on monday. and released with a fine.

Yes, something doesn't add up. If nothing else, I doubt he was such good company they wanted to keep him around and feed him for 17 days, for no reason.

He could've been the biggest jerk on the face of the Earth. He still gets to go before a judge and have counsel. And considering his claim that he was never formally accused of a crime the entire time means his rights were violated. Whether he did a crime, was a bad person, the cop 'did his job', etc, still doesn't account for the fact he sat in a jail for 17 days WITHOUT knowing when he'd be getting out or even a lawyer to discuss his plight with.

And don't tell me the officer isn't partially to blame. Regardless of suspicion, if you can't find evidence you have to let them go. Innocent until proven guilty and all that jazz.

Somebody called the cops to report a weaving truck. The driver apparently had balance issues, which could make him seem impaired. Sounds to me like the trooper was doing his job

Some people screwed up and kept this guy in jail, but I don't think this driver should be making plans on how to spend his millions just yet.

Rodney King got a serious beating (caught on tape) and he got $3.7 million.

Seems to me that driver shouldn't have waited 17 days to start asking questions.

There have been people wrongly convicted and imprisoned for decades and they often don't get much or even any compensation.

Seriously the stuff you read on forums.

The county DA or ADA and the cop shop are in for a mess because they work together and there are specific guidelines on how to handle prisoners, but this case is where they stepped over the line and forgot that people have gone to jail for civil rights violations.

They may settle out of court but the state isn't limited in what the judgement can be, this is a federal trial, not a state one so the state will end up paying which I hope they pay big.

ALSO like many other jurisdictions, the USP can end up with federal monitors embedded within their system which means that they will end up being watched and other abuses will end up being tried IF this is a common practice.
