15 years of driving and delivering nights in Southern California's metro areas and I've never had a problem with the bad guys and I don't know of a driver personally that has had one. Carrying a gun in your truck will more likely get you into trouble with the leo's and your employer than save you from the bad guy. It's a sad reality but it is what it is. I am a proud NRA member.
ps
I'm not saying nothing bad will ever happen, heck, I might just get robbed tonight but my state does not allow me to defend myself.

I carry a panzerschreck in my truck.
ethos Thanks this. -
That'll give those meth heads pause!

Never had a problem. I do have a nice knife, should be it was expensive, but I didn't buy it to stab people with. Never carried a gun, never felt I needed one.But if you feel that you must have protection then all what the others say would work. Heck my tire thumper is in my side box and that is where it will stay.

Who makes a panzerschreck reference?

Better you than me. I've always said I'll return to new York when I'm supplied with a Gatling gun and a trailer load of ammunition.

Wasp spray, tire thumper and a Mag Light. Mag light is a better weapon than the tire thumper by far.

My company has a strict policy about carrying any kind of weapons. It's in the handbook, which they gave me in orientation. I suppose they want me to roll it up and swing it at would-be-assailants.
Outside of that, get you three or four coke cans and put them in a pillow case. Wrap the top around your clenched fist and swing like you are Babe Ruth.
A night spent in the drunk tank in Tallahatchie County, Mississippi was a better education than 3 semesters of community college.Twicebit Thanks this. -
Your ex-military--Im guessin you have a pretty decent idea how to handle yourself--know where you are--pay attention--keep your wits about you--and act like you've got some sense--and like Pete said--almost 40 years pulln a reefer--into every rathole bad part of town anywhere you can think of--and ain't had a lick of trouble--NEVER carried a gun--and the only sharp thing I have is a box cutter--usually IN my trailer--to cut shrink wrap with--LOL
Course if everybody who talks about NYC Boston etc...was REALLY TELLING THE TRUTH about the dangers--Id should have been dead around 74 or 75
