Yeah , when they hear 200,000 drivers will be needed they don't know carriers haven't increased their fleet size at all . While maybe 20,000 retired 180,000 were newbies that quit and need to be replaced .
Truckers face labor shortage due to new federal regulations. 100,000 drivers needed.

Now that makes total sense Lone Ranger!
Supply and demand.
I agree 100%. -
There is a "shortage " at abusive starter companies . Decent carriers have a stack of applications from 10 times the drivers they will ever need . That is why "Get a year OTR then you'll be able to get a better job " is a myth . There are far more drivers with a year experience wanting to make a move than there are drivers with good jobs leaving and making a job available .
Also many of these good jobs vanish when a starter carrier convinces a private carrier to sell their tractors and become a dedicated account .rpcrown Thanks this. -
Very valid argument RickG. New drivers should be warned.
I hope they see this thread and listen to experienced truckers before they buy into the carriers' empty promises. -
Most don't listen . They think they're smarter than the tens of thousands before them . Some say "If I don't drive a truck what am I going to do ? " so they go for it .Then months later and thousands of dollars in debt they are on a bus home with a negative DAC asking that question again .rpcrown Thanks this.

Sad but probably true.
Yet as long as we start a critical thought in even a few drivers' heads before they do something stupid I think posts like yours and Lone Ranger 13 will be the best medicine. -
What source is this from? Its always been 70 in 8 days. For an average of 8.75 hours a day. That's 70 hours total between driving and on duty not driving. In 8 days not 7. Never heard of 82 hours.

You could work 5 14 hour days . Stop 6 p.m. fifth day . 34 hour restart ends 4 a.m. the seventh day . Work until 6 p.m. . That's 84 hours in 7 days .rpcrown Thanks this.

All that is true. It is just like any other industry, Americans might as well learn to live homeless. We have let our country be given away. The Republicans want illegals here in the country for cheap labor, and the Democrats want them here for "diversity" (cheap labor that will accept communism) and there you go. By the way, here are some Mexican trucks. Remember Junior Hoffa protesting Bush for bringing in the Mexican truckers, well Obama sealed it and now Hoffa is silent.
