This a great thread. I gaining insight into other tanker driving that would be hard to acquire. I specialize in farm pickup and turn the truck over lots of times to our linehaulers. I wonder what top wages for my speciality would be with others companies?

You're on your way. It just takes time but now is the time you can introduce yourself to the company you like. I'm sure you already know who's who and which company you like. In your favor BP/ARCO is not going anywhere up in that part of CA. They will stay in the Pacific Northwest. Starting at your area and going up all the way to B.C. You know that Sacramento has a good reputation for hiring and keeping drivers. The only drivers I every seen leave that area with ARCO was a driver that transferred with the company and came to Las Vegas. It was very smart on his part with the cost of living for what it was. Even if that doesn't work out you've got San Jose that has a terminal there too.
You can walk into the terminal and let them know you really want to work for them. They will tell you the first process is through on-line then you pass that and they will start to dissect you. Be sure to tell them your experience and your intentions. If you're comfortable where you're at then tell them you'll stay there until they have an opening. Also you might want to watch the new pipeline going from SLC to Las Vegas. I don't know if you can move but sometimes you have to go where the jobs are. Especially if it's a new terminals. You'll be right at the top of the board for bidding shifts and vacations. Lets us know what goes on. I'm sure I know some of the people you've run across if you've pulled any ARCO. -
What is it that you like so much about it? I've never pulled a tanker but I always here folks saying they like it,but never hear why...

Hard to explain. I guess if I had to sum it up it's less of a hassle for me. I am rarely unloading beside a hundred other trucks. I have a better idea how long it's going to take. I like the solitude, no finding a Dock door and waiting and waiting wondering what is going on. Most, not all, of the places we go are actually somewhat designed for trucks. We get paid for almost everything. There are things I don't like about tanking, like you still wait around a lot but it seems to be a different kind of waiting.
Like I said hard to explain.superpet39 Thanks this. -
lol...I guess so.

Many chemical shippers want exclusive use of the tank to avoid chance of contamination . They pay round trip . When you are empty the tank goes back to the shipper . No waiting for another load . All the loads out of one terminal I pulled from were preloaded and many were drop and hook .
Several receivers had limited storage capacity . If they had production problems I might even wait until the next day to unload - and I was paid for every hour of it . Several times I was being paid during my 10 hour break . -
