LTL is good.
Dedicated is good.
I run Dedicated for the Big Orange. Money is good. Hit 2 - 5 stores a night and average 1,920 miles per week. My direct deposit has a comma in it every week.
It's not the miles as much as the Accessorial Pay that makes it happen. Miles help though.
It's food so I do not touch it. I open and close the door and move the bulkheads. That's all. Run hard, keep the trailer outta the trees and wash the trailer before you take it back.
Easy.
Where to go now?

yup running produce and stuff you don't touch alot of it ...but you gotta deal with lumpers unfortunately
-
Not to mention the packing houses that were screaming at your dispatch about "where the hell are you?" and then getting there and finding they are still waiting for the trucks to come in from the fields. . .I don't care if I NEVER get to Nogales or Yuma again!
-
There ya go Big Don& just when i was starting to like you! Judging from your avatar I'm guess ur a freight hauler--(Nothing wrong with that--have family retired from Big R and cornflakes)and if you go back a few decades I actually drove a Big R truck myself just wasn't 4 me! Although all I do to this day is LTL--it's just long haul perishable(only thing out there still pays any real money) so i understand work etc.
But NEVER go back to Yuma or Nogales??? My god man! Where is your sence of adventure--I've been off the road going on 3 months now(2 major surgeries) Buddy called me from the point Sat nite said "they're sending out a search party!" LMAO--I've just had way too much fun in Yuma over the years to feel that way!! Besides it makes you remember how goo you have it when Salinas opens back up next month!
No Yuma? NO Nogales?? whats next NO SAFEWAY?? C'mon man get a glove and get in the game

Just my $.02
PS--stay safe! -
I'm out of the game completely Olhand. I done went and got myself retired along about 2008 or so. Sometimes I'm glad of it, sometimes not. . .
-
Oh that explains the lack of adventure! OK--remember fishing &motorcyles are the 2 best cures for retirement--and while you're at it--take a kid fishin with you--hell take 2 they're small!!LOL
ENJOYBig Don Thanks this. -

So, it's been a little over 2 years, and I thought I'd revisit this since some things have changed and maybe my experiences will help someone else asking the same questions later. First off, thanks to all the above posters for your feedback and input. Here is what I did since my last post....
March 2011 I joined Ozark for OTR (dry van, general freight) until April 2012 when I had a death in the family
July 2012 I joined Greatwide on local runs around Memphis for LTL (thanks so much for the feedback on LTL guys, it helped) and you're right, my checks every week had commas in it, and with Greatwide even though it was grocery, I had to jump in the back more often than not and use a pallet jack to help out.... thankfully I have a decently strong back lol!
Dec 2012 I took the leap and bought my first truck, then leased on to Schneider in their Choice Program (picking my own loads). Now it's May 2013 and I'm doing great... I know it's a different type of freedom than the guys (and gals) with their own authority, but having the freedom to come and go as I please without annoying calls from my company wondering when I'm coming back to work, and the freedom to run where I want when I want is awesome! I'm making as much money as I need and then some, and so long as my '07 FTL Century keeps running good, I don't foresee any issues.
Best of luck to all drivers out here, be safe and have fun!FatDaddy, 123456, Big Don and 1 other person Thank this. -
That is great tovya. Just make sure you have a large "break down fund," because sooner or later, you will need it. No matter what you own.
