I have developed what seems to be an oil leak from somewhere near the air compressor. Can anyone tell me what the hose coming off the back of the compressor is for and where it goes to??

Also, what does this shutoff valve do from the secondary fuel filter??

I figured out that it is the oil feed line on the compressor. Now to figure out where it's leaking.

when I changed my compressor the line went behind it and in to the block its very short and brittle from the heat I guess

That valve on the fuel line is to return warm fuel back to the filter or something like that, I can't remember for sure. But yours is open in the down position, when I run mine like that fuel mileage goes to crap and truck doesn't run the greatest. Most guys around home get rid of that nonsense, that valve is known to suck air and make you pull your hair out.

The line loops around behind the compressor and hooks into the block. Just take it off and have a new one made. Just changed mine last weekend.

The compressor oil feed lines go brittle and hard from heat, as previously stated, I have been replacing them for a whyle with stainless braided lines similar to your compressor outlet line, they last for ever like that.

Well, went to the beacon and had them pressure wash the engine. Don't see any leaks now but it looks like I'm getting oil in my air lines now. So I'm thinking that the compressor might be going bad. I'm on the road for another week, so I guess I'll pull the main air supply line and see if its getting oil out of it in the morning. Might be time for a new compressor.

Any idea what a rebuilt one goes for?

My compressor in Feb 2011 was $756.34 the core charge was $1234.05, I guess they wanted to make sure they got it back.
