why anyone goes to "clinic" or fleet provided Dr. for DOT physicals is beyond me. If your family Dr. can do it, go to them. They know you, they know your history, in some cases maybe they know your family's history. They are going to be a much better decider of who needs this test and who doesn't. According to the "standards" I fit for a sleep apnea test, according to my family Dr., they are overhyped and not as accurate as they seem and should not be doled out like candy. I'm also type 2 diabetic (controlled by diet and exercise), guess what I have a 2 yr card, why, because my family physician knows me better than the DOT Dr. or Concentra Health clinic does. We've been going to the same Family Practice since 1979, they know my mothers history, they know my fathers history. They were the ones who sent my Dad for his sleep study, twice. BTW, wanna know how to mess up a sleep study, Benadryl and don't tell them you took. In my overnight bag I keep an assortment of OTC meds, including Benadryl, Claritan (D), alevem ibuprofen and Tylenol. Since I know I have a hard time sleeping in the truck, I take a Benadryl 30 minutes before I stop for the night, no matter how tired I already am. Friend who also fits the "standards" was sent for a sleep study, he took a Benadryl just before he walked in the place, slept soundly for 5.5 hrs, then was wide awake for the rest of the test, the same way he's slept for the last 30 yrs, he's 46. Now what?

I had my sleep study done about 5 years ago and insurance paid for the machine. My symptoms were snoring and waking up in the middle of the night and when I got up in the morning to go to work, I was very tired. I have one of the higher pressure bipap machines that varies the amount of air it pushes into my lungs, so my brain gets enough oxygen while I sleep. I weighed 200 lbs and was 5'9" when I had my first sleep apnea diagnosis. I am an avid cyclist and had my first heart attack while on a bike ride. I did not pass out and was very aware I was having a heart attack, with pain between my should blades in my back.....not what I would call chest pain, as it was not on my front, but my back.

The machines are expensive, and it is nice that a company would pay for it up front and then deduct it from your paycheck......if they are not charging any interest on the prepayment, then you have just gotten a zero interest loan for the machine. I would not complain about that!!!!

Mostly because if you want the job, you get your initial DOT exam with our in-house doctor. Subsequently it's either him or Concentra. It is what it is.

if I have a valid DOT physical, less than 6mos. old from my family Dr., they can lump it. Don't care if it's Prime, SWIFT, Werner or God

    Well whoop-de-do! LOL!!

It's mostly because they've been burned by the "family doctor," who turned out to be good 'ol Joe down the street who doesn't mind pretending to be a doc for his drinkin' buddy who needs a forged medical.

    (I asked...)
