Are EOBR's creating a "new" new breed

nah seems correct to some degree. I have a freind whose on that electric log stuff and dispatch always bustin his balls for every little thing. like if he pulled over to pee and grab smokes for 10 minutes. why didnt u log it!? Then again truck drivers just dont care anymore where they park or whose day they make more difficult. Its everyman for themselves. At least thats how it is where i typically drive in nj ny ct etc.

 

you're in the north east,that explains it.No care states about anything.

 

Was at the Iowa 80 yesterday. Saw a hand parked in the back with the cool kids, get out and walk his dog...THEN grabbed his duffle and went in for a shower....

....missing a leg. He was on crutches.

If you don't have time to park properly because you're on elogs than you don't know what the eff you're doing. Pull in, change duty status, park without a ticking clock. I assume there are drivers on elogs who use them as an excuse to be an a-hole. I doubt there are that many people who don't know how to run an elog right.

 

Depends on the "culture" at the carrier. If they were into busting drivers balls for every second they can get on the road, electronic logging just makes micromanaging a driver into a science. It does however, prevent them from dogging a driver into driving illegally... unless dispatch has the authority to go into the database and change a driver's hours.

At a carrier that doesn't do that sort of thing, it's just an automated log book that provides a better base of information for load planning to use to better utilize your legally available hours. No more "hero" runs. That means getting dispatched faster on the load that can best be matched up to what you have available. So it can be a curse or a blessing.

 

There ya go.That's what I did with an elog company.If you drive slow enough like what 5 mph the elog don't kick in?

 

wow.you think as i do.i never attributed that form of driving to eobr but it makes sense.those that can't run but 64 on the hwy do 64 thru the t/s parking lot.IT IS ALWAYS big company hands but i have seen the spectrum of drivers do it.heck,ive had to jump out of the way for speeding drivers and a pedestrian is supposed to have the right of way.

pouring down rain and drivers won't wait for me to clear the area walking and make me stand there longer.i do get hung up thought wise on drivers that act in such a manner.what is another 20-30 seconds going to do to you if you are courteous enough to wait on someone or give a walker the right of way? i can't envision any major impact.well perhaps it would make one feel better about themselves but that is a foreign concept it seems. most that act /drive like this are younger but ive noticed a few older drivers conducting themselves in such a hideous manner-

 

While I gotta agree with everything you said, I think it goes beyond EOBR's too. One thing that these puppy mill driving schools don't/can't/won't teach is pride. Pride in your ride and the job you do, which as a fellow old fart I'm sure you remember well. Sadly a goodly amount of steering wheel holders I see nowadaze I wouldn't trust to push a 3 wheeled bundle buggy @ a Walmart. From the dash totally obliterated with junk to the 1/2" thick fuel congealed scum on the tanks to the stretchy bingo pants and flip flops to the unshaven, unshowered fool standing in line @ the fuel desk with a half-eaten hot dog in one hand and a blue tooth in his ear yelling at someone on the other end.

And when you think about it, how can you blame a rookie for acting that way when his "trainer" has six whole months more 'experience' than he/she does?
