in the old days you did not have any schools that i knew about. just gave you the keys and if you made it back you were a truck driver. but back then if you had a problem someone would help you. now that i am retired if someone asked me what i miss the most it would be the other drivers, and for #### sure not the shipper and receivers. lots of luck

Ahh , many good reply's. As for buying things , I am not buying anything that I could not use otherwise for another job or give to one of my kids. Nothing goes to waste or unused. To help get my body ready , I have already started to adjust my diet and I have been doing a series of stretching exercises. Health is important.
I have brother , brothers in law and a few uncles in the trucking industry already so I am not jumping into a career that I am not prepared mentally for. As a former Marine, I am used to the hurry up and then wait lifestyle. Have waited hours and days on flight decks and hanger bays , etc. Can't be a whole lot worse than waiting in the sun in Beirut. Also , lucky for me. I will be driving my own vehicle to school . I live about 45 minutes away. I do realize that this job will not be a cake walk.

Make sure before you leave the wife's car has a fresh oil change, good tires and brakes. Make sure the house is safe and there aren't any major problems that will be up to her to take care of. Make sure she has the numbers to all the people in your company she needs to call if she can't get you on the phone when you are in the middle of nowhere with no cell service and a real emergency arrises. Doing these things will give you, and her some peace of mind that is worth more than gold when you are away.

Who peed in your Cheerios ? I'm buying new work pants so "I" will be comfortable. Not to impress anybody. #### , you can't even write so why should your opinion matter to me or anyone else ?

That's just his way of saying hello. Ribbing you a bit for the pants as well. Most guys that get hired on talk about getting an atlas, GPS, Bluetooth..... New pants is a new one. Don't let it get you down.

Honestly your list of things is good so don't let someone else get you down. There is nothing wrong with new pants either. Most drivers out here should invest in new because most look like slobs but not all just the select few. Another thing to invest in after you get your truck is xm/sirius radio. I love mine and roaddog trucking radio makes the late night miles roll on by.
