So after a little more than a year of slamming doors, I've accepted an offer to move to a different company and start throwing chains, straps and tarps. Things should get interesting for me next week.

    Rocks Thanks this.

take a picture of one of those grocery warehouse driver's rooms. You can pull it out and cry when you are tarping in the freezing drizzle.

Yep, you won't be sitting around with a bunch of big breasted men in stained wifebeaters and sweatpants getting abused by companies that are paying wages that would have been considered cheap a quarter century ago.

Small company - 2 trucks, and the company owner drives one of them. Pretty much the same arrangement that I have now; pay based on percentage of gross to the truck and mostly self-dispatch. Plans are for my last day with my current employer to be 6/22, then the SO and I will hop a train over to the new truck on 6/23 and spend a few days getting it in shape before hitting the road.

Meh. I've climbed a 300' ladder in ND in January, worked for hours at that height in 20+mph winds, climbed down to grab lunch and use the portable toilet (frozen solid), then climbed back up to finish out the day. Spending an hour or two on the ground sculpting an ice glazed tarp doesn't sound so bad hehehe.

You're aright, it's not too bad. The cold at least makes you want to work harder to stay warm. The unfortunate thing about the scenario is you forgot to factor in the wind. :)

Good luck windsmith.. Looking forward to seeing how it goes. Sounded like you did very well with the van enjoyed the posts. Maybe you can hit it out of the park with a step?? cause allegedly rates are easier to come by than vans, or just in the toilet altogether??? depending on who you talk to... ..I tend to think if you play it right ought to be much easier to pull in better averages with a step.. ..although a learning curve will be there for sure.

    windsmith Thanks this.
