What I don't get is how Columbus is such a great market. It's a poor one for me but my parameters out are what limits me, still I manage. If I were willing to run to upstate NY or even other points east coast I see many options there that appear to be brokers ready for a hammer to come knocking down. Agree with others $2.50 ought to be easy to swing. I think this has more to do with a willingness to accept $650 on 500 miles and probably safestat scores too.

Like I said earlier that this site sides the bullies and the behind the seen gangs (curse of GOD may be upon on all those who support terrorism). The industry knows without looking at any numbers (who I talk to on regular basis) going into OH does not pay much and going back up the lane to north east pays much better, and the other fact is that if the Columbus OH market goes down then the whole industry must be in a major crash or we must be in a depression. The other fact is that the minimum cost to run a truck with your own authority $1.53/mile. The national average for the long run is $1.77/mile and $2.40/mile for short hauls, with north east being a bit higher. Now if I have to make hundreds of calls and the best rate is $650 on 500 miles ($1.3/mile) and the chief economist's advise is accepted at $2.0/mile then the average for the run is $1.65/mile and if you calculate the tolls of (approx $400) then you just worked in the negative and the behind the seen terrorist mafia wins. I can go on and will provide the facts of the industry (that was provided under the thread "Running Empty from Columbus OH" which was deleted for some unknown reasons) which is used by the economists and the Gov, it is clear that the industry is not in a crash but it is at its best in last few years.

And, he proved my point again...

BTW, the minimum cost to run YOUR truck, is not the minimum cost that OTHERS have.

Here we go again, Transplace re-adjusting the price after the call and reposing at $200 under the market to NY

Apparently they re-adjusted the weight to, from 40K to 9K, but don't let the details stop you from ########.

The dispatch service apparently got a call from the terror group, and now he says going to Indianapolis IN and back at the average rate of $1.50 is good money. That is totally different from what he originally said, ("we have better rates than most of the other guys and about $950 to go and $2000 to come back", which is confirmed from most of the O/Os running that lane) Now it is $750 to go to Indianapolis and $1800 to come back. All I gota say is wow!!

Why are you even talking about this guy? If he does not produce the money you want find loads your self. Its over, get over it, move on. Who cares what other pay is, it has nothing to do with you. Charge what you want to get, and move on.

If you know what you're doing you can do ok on the east coast, if you don't you'll be wishing you never climbed in.... Generally speaking, and in my experience with them, (east coast brokers), they are tough and shrewd, they play games, and bluff and dance, and are probably the best there is at it... I won't call until later, (never early in the am, this tells them that you're hungry), and I have the accent pretty thick and get pretty direct, so that's a major help for me, I think so anyway.... I always visualize my old boss and how he handled people on the phone when I'm working... He knew how to straighten people out who needed straightening, and he knew how to soothe those who paid good money and were simply looking for experience and service...lol...

Although I did break a rule of mine and called on something early today, (a couple hours ago), I simply told him my rate, figured he needed me more than I needed him, spoke directly and without wavering, and got the deal done... and it's a good deal, probably more than what guys in good markets are getting late in the day.... So, I might start earlier than usual for awhile and see how that goes... who knows?
